I would hold off. I did it with my DD(only a few packages) and couldn't figure out why I couldn't get rid of her diaper rash. Turns out she is allergic Huggie brand diapers.

I just want to add as a BTDT mom, that the weight on the box is not always an exact indicator of size. My son was under 10 lb and the NB didn't really fit him (we had a sample). He also always had to move up a size before he hit the maximum weight on a particular size.
Just thought that might be helpful.

I agree, DS was born 8.12 and the NB diapers never fit him, they didn't even put them on him in the hospital. I had to return the unopened box of NB that we got. Heads up though, they let you, in fact encourage you, to take home EVERYTHING from your room in the hospital, diapers, wipes, cream, theremometers, burp cloths, etc. So take home whatevers not nailed down, those will get through a couple of days and then send DH out to the store to get whatever size/brand works for you. DO NOT buy many ahead of time, you never know what size/brand will work best for your DC.

I wouldn't get too many diaper early. You never know which brands will work best for your child and you don't want to waste money.

I never needed to stock up. My sister did a diaper wishing well for us and we were very fortunate that people bought us a lot of diapers. We didn't buy diapers until DS was about 6 months.
If you see a great deal, it doesn't hurt to buy some. However, I found that DS did better in some diapers than others.

Having BTDT I was very happy with pampers for my son and since #2 is a boy I feel comfortable enough to stock up for him...I am set on sz 1 & 2...my boys are big so we bypass newborn.
But...I wouldn't tell a friend to stock up because you never really know. I think that if you are BTDT mom you might be willing to but otherwise it's okay to wait. You stock up on what you get in the hospital and then you send DH out for more. A package or two might be helpful but don't open anything in advance.
