How do you respond to telemarketers?
Do you entertain them, hang up on them, or entertain yourself?
I usually say "no thank you" and hang up, but...
This one time I told them to hold on, I put the phone down on the counter and never picked the phone back up  that's my extent of patience!

I hang up on them. The last time I tried to politely say "no thanks" the woman who called insisted that my DH called them first to look into refinancing our mortgage. I should have called her on the lie because I know DH would not do that without telling me, and he would also not do with with some hole i the wall company that uses cell phones to do business.
Thank heavens for caller ID.

They're not trying to bug you, they're just doing their job, so I think it's the nice way to go.

I hang up, DH lets them go thru their whole "presentation" then tells them to pls hold. The longest we had some guy wait was 20 mins. DH finds this VERY funny. "they waste my time, Im gonna waste theirs"

I usually just say I'm not interested and hang up.
When I lived at my mom's house, I'd hand the phone over to my brother. He'd have some fun with them, it was always entertaining!!

if they get nasty...I ask them if I can call them back at home at their next inconvient time.

I try to be polite and say "I'm not interested, thank you" since I used to utilize telemarketing as one of my fundraising channels. But today I got one who was really rude while my son was crying in the background so I just hung up.
My uncle pretends that he's selling them something until they get annoyed and hang up on him. "Oh, thanks, I really don't need a subscription to the NY Times right now. Can I interest you in some Tupperware?" So funny when we're at his place and he gets those calls.

We have caller ID so when I see the 800 numbers or numbers we dont know for sure, I pick up, and then hang up...I have NO patience for them and I wish they would stop!!

I dont even answer the phone I have a message on my answer machine saying if this is a telemarketer please put me on your no call list everyone else leave a message... I think once they hear that they hang up!

I will usually check caller id, if I don't know the number I don't answer.
But if for some reason I do answer and I realize its a telemarketer I typically just hang up.

If I get dead air when I first answer or hearing clicking noise, I hand up IMMEDIATELY!
If I get the telemarker, I don't even let them finish. I say I am not interested and hang up.

I have a good sense of humor but don't find this funny....your DH should not let them get to the point of giving their "presentation".
While we may hate telemarketing, people do this for a living. They most likely do NOT want to be doing it (as i had to in college to pay bills!!) and they really aren't wasting anyones time if you politely hang up as soon as they come on the phone.
