If i don't like it i won't respond

To the people who wrote this in response to the other thread about lying in posts...

Why do you not respond?

Fearful of offending?
don't want to be rude?

Re: If i don't like it i won't respond

Sometimes I steer clear of posting on a thread because I know my opinion will cause drama and resentment from the poster and if I generally like the poster I don't wanna get into it.

But more often then not I jump in, rarely do I not

Re: If i don't like it i won't respond

Sometimes I just don't want to deal with the back and forth. People always have a comment, and then you feel you need to reply, and the cycle goes on and on.

Re: If i don't like it i won't respond

I do this on two occasions:
1. I have posted this particular opinion a million times.
2. I am going to disagree with someone that I always disagree with and I don't want that person to think that I simply have it out for them.

I have to say, neither happen very often.

Re: If i don't like it i won't respond

Well depending on the topic i guess i understand why some just do not want drama

BUT if it is an opinion of a dress, shirt, nails etc...

Why not give it?

If it's something silly like that, I have no fear of responding, or possibly offending- not everyone's taste is going to be the same. It's usually when I feel someone is being pretty stupid that I just don't bother.

Re: If i don't like it i won't respond

IMO...if it were me andi wanted opinions on say a dress...

Well i would want the good and the bad

And i think people who do not post because they don't want to make the poster feel bad are doing them a disservice...no?

I mean if the poster saw only raves...its that real?

is it a disservice - probably, but so many brides to be cannot take negativity, what they percive as negavitivity.

and no, its not real to only hear raves....

OK...BRIDES....that is an entirely different story

I COMPLETELY understand why people lie to brides on that site

In this particular case, I usually just don't care all that much, or am not that interested.

Most of the time when I don't say anything it is because of what nferrandi said - the back and forth business.

And to be honest, sometimes, I just don't really like the original poster and don't want to participate in the thread. Chat Icon

Re: If i don't like it i won't respond

There are two reasons why for me:

1. There are some posters who I feel are unable to see things from an alternate view, no matter how logical the argument or how even toned the post. It's just not worth my energy.

2. There are some posters who take everything incredibly personally and you cannot have a "discussion" with them without them complaining that they have been picked on. I find their mental state too fragile to argue with - and it's just not worth my energy.

yea i see that....Lordy knows i can be a PITA myself when i feel strongly about something/issue/topic

But if a poster was to ask if we like a dress...?

That i just do not see the point in lying or not answering...

My thoughts on that:

When people say "Do you like this dress?" that they ALREADY BOUGHT, to me they are just fishing for complements and looking to hear what they want to hear. I don't answer those for the most part.

When people ask if I like something they haven't bought yet, I'll usually give my opinion, but I think it's all in the way you say it, whether you agree or disagree.

And then there are the people that seem to need validation for EVERY decision in their lives and in order for me not to scream "GET A BACKBONE AND MAKE UP YOUR OWN DAMN MIND!" I refrain from posting. Chat Icon

Re: If i don't like it i won't respond

Sometimes I feel like my comments will be taken the wrong way .
I feel like I am not nealry as good as expressing myself online vs. in person ( I am very animated)
also, I really not a big fan of conflict unless I am provoked.

ETA- I also don't respond when :
I have nothing valid to add to a post or if my opinion was expressed more then a couple of times.

Re: If i don't like it i won't respond

I think it's easier to express an honest opinion on here than LIW. Sometimes when people post pics and I don't think it looks good I won't respond either b/c I don't want to be rude or don't want to deal with the hypersensitivity of the poster. I think people get offended way too easily over there. If someone asks for honest opinions, I don't mind being honest. However, if you disagree with certain people on LIW, they or their friends go nuts. It's not worth the hassle.
ETA: If someone already bought a dress or booked a vendor and I thought the dress or trials looked horrible, there's no point in giving my opinion. I wouldn't want to make someone feel bad about something they already paid for.

Re: If i don't like it i won't respond

We all read posts that we don't respond to. Sometimes, if I just don't care, I won't bother responding. Also, as others are saying, some can't take an honest answer and I have no need to go back and forth.

I do think though that when people post a pic and say - do you like these shoes? - and there are 6 replies and 200 views - well, they got their answer!! LOL!

I dont usually answer questions like this because...

I can not tell how it will look on someone from pictures

or

it could totally not be my taste but still look fabulous on the person

I see and agree with what your saying - not all views are necessarily a negative response, but maybe the number of responses are.
