How do you pronounce this soup?
I have always pronounced it
minetronE
but today someone was so suprised when I said that. They pronounced it
minstron (no E at the end)
How do you say it?

a. they don't pronounce it
b. no "other" category
I pronounce it minestronE.
I have a hard time pronouncing Italian food words outside of Italy. After 6 years of Italian, I know how to pronounce it - I'm just embarassed to throw the accent around. When I went to Italy, my Italian teacher was astounded that my accent was perfect on the plane ride there but the plane ride home it was non-existent.

In Italian, if there is a vowel on the end of the word, then you pronounce it. I say the 'e'.

My parents and the rest of my family are from Italy - I've never heard them pronounce those words (calamari, ricotta, mozzarella, cavatelli) in this way [they are spelled out above].
