you know what really annoys me...when people tell me I don't pronounce my last name correctly!
I have a very ethnic sounding Polish last name...well I did before I got married...but I still use it sometimes. On a regular basis people feel it is there business to tell me that is NOT the correct pronunciation....Why do they freakin care

I get that too. I have a spanish last name so I say it differently when I'm speaking to spanish people just to avoid hearing sh*t. My BIL always corrects me - and DH too!

It's sooooo stupid...like why do they care so damn much
ETA...I would feel rediculous saying it the "Polish" way

The difference in my name is the same difference in Po-tAY-to or Po-TAH-to so I flip back and forth constantly... and it's only been my name for 2 years so I REALLY don't care!
At least I've always been familiar with my name so I don't feel awkward saying it. I can't imagine how badly I'd be butchering a polish name! Next time someone corrects you just tell them "no, maybe that's how you say YOUR name, but MY name is ________." People are stupid.

I hate that too!!
My last name is Bonilla (I say it the Spanish way... Bo-nee-ya) and there are those that tell me I should say Ba-nilla, like Vanilla!!

i get that but it is a reverse situation. when i was growing up i said it the 'american' way of saying it b/c it is easier saying it for an 8 year old. i grew up the whole time with my mom saying it the polish way, so when i was old enough to say it in polish, i said it that way. I never changed my name when i got married. often, when i was living in the US i would get 'you are in america, say it the american way' (my ex boss would say that all the time). um, no, it is my surname i will say it how i want. 
it is a little easier here in Australia b/c there is a large polish population and i teach a few poles and other eastern europeans. i cant say it as nice as they can, but it always sounds so nice to my ears. the name isnt one of those difficult polish names.
anyway, i understand and sorry this is happening to you.

Kathleen, as you know my new last name is BUTCHERED. It is rather ethnic - RUSSIAN to be specific. If people simply apply the basic rules of PHONICS that they learned in the SECOND GRADE (yes the SECOND GRADE) then there is no excuse for at LEAST an attempt to get it right. People just look at it and say "I give up." Geez, I guess Hooked on Phonics didn't work for you! There are certain ethnicities that have languages where the sounds in my last name are simply not found. Those are the ONLY people I do not expect to get it right.
As far as me saying my maiden name with its intended accent, I would sound like I was right off the set of Fiddler on the Roof or Yentl sounding like a complete moron since I do not speak Hebrew or Yiddish. Thank you, but I'll pass knowing exactly who I am and where my ancestors came from.

Im one of these people 
It drives me crazy to here Italian last names ending in "aglia" or "iglia" pronounced AG LEE YA. or IG LEE YA
the G is silent!
(same with gna or gno or gni endings.)
and my good friend growing up was Polish and I felt weird saying her last name the "English" way, so I said it just the way she does, in POlish, right from the start.
I knew a girl whose last name was Ruggero or something and she kept pronouncing it "RuggerIO" and I was like "wheres the IO sound ????"
sorry but spelling and pronunciation is one of my pet peeves. I just cant help it.

No one EVER pronounces my maiden name correctly.
It is a Di and pronounced DE and they alwasyyyssss add an "O" to the "ei" ending... I dont get where they get that from LOL

Anna , this is me, too. My maiden name is an Italian last name ending in gno and my family had Americanized it but when I got to High School Italian class and learned the correct pronunciation I started saying it that way. My own BROTHER made fun of me for doing it and called me pretentious. He told me we were in America.
DH is Polish and his last name is one of those Kowski ending and everyone says COW but really it is more like COUGH. I say it the way he says it.
I am guessing that some people get annoyed when they hear others mispronounce their own names because we are finally at a time in history where it is socially acceptable to speak another language in public. We don't have to hide from our heritage now. My poor grandfather changed his name from Giuseppe to Joseph and my grandmother from Carmela to Mildred so they could fit it. Fortunately we don't have to do that anymore.
Also, I think there are people who feel like changing the pronunciation of your name is accomodating someone else when it is your name and heritage and should be embraced,

people tell me "well i know people that spell it taht way and they say its "mee-gen".

I used to get that ALL the time too. I would just reply...Ok, yeah, sure, thanks.
Not to mention all the different ways I would hear it pronounced There were letters thrown in that didn't exist!
Thankfully my new name is cut and dry. There is no "ethnic" way to pronounce it so no more correcting me on my name

I get it both ways...my maiden name (which I still use almost all of the time) Is Ber-gin (like the county in NJ) I almost always get called Ber-geene.
Now, my married name is Inturrisi and well, some people can't even pronounce it (IN-TER-E-SEE) Doesn't seem that hard, but people freak out when they see it!
