How did you change from dc1 to dc2?
How did you change? What did you do differently? Were you more lax? What went out the window with #2?

Re: How did you change from dc1 to dc2?
I don't have 2 yet but just from the pregnancy alone I see a huge change in me. If you ask me how far along I am, I seriously have to think about it, sometimes even count off of a calendar. With DS1, I was like "I am 14 weeks, 2 days and my baby is the size of a clementine. He is developing skin cells and portions of his pancreas this week" or whatever baby center said. LOL
I have forgotten to tell people I am pregnant. I have forgotten I can't eat certain things. I have forgotten I am pregnant altogether and planned a ski trip I can't partake in. Its bizarre.

I agree that I was MUCH more lax during my second pregnancy. And yes that carried over now that I have my second baby. I am more laid back with the second but I also have a lot of guilt because I feel like I can't give him the same undivided attention that I gave my DD.

This was exactly me! I can't tell you how many times people asked me things about the baby or pregnancy and I didn't know what they were talking about at first bc I forgot I was pregnant all the time. I felt bad I didn't offer to do a charity 5k with a fiend and it was a while before I realized I'd be 8 months pregnant at the time.
I always said I wanted to be better about leaving the baby than I was with my first. I was always stressed about missing nursing sessions and giving a bottle. Well that definitely happened since DD2 was in the nicu and once I was discharged she of course had bottles. Thankfully this baby is way better at nursing than my first was so it's never been an issue going back and forth and I've had no issues leaving her for a few hours. I'm a little bit of a tummy time nazi now since my first had motor delays. Other than that I was pretty laid back with my first so I don't think I'm that different.

How did you change from dc1 to dc2?
I'm spending less money. (Well OVERALL more money, but I'm not spending money on certain things for #2 that I did with #1). I realize now that all those fancy little outfits I bought on etsy are such a waste. I don't even have time to take cute pics. Xmas #2 got a lot of hand-me-downs as gifts (because she was only 6 months and didn't even open the gifts). Doing BLW this time instead of purees (I like this better). #2 slept in our room until she was 7 months, whereas my DS was moved into his crib at 7 weeks. (just how it worked out) I didnt go crazy fixing up her room, know a baby doesn't really need their own room right away.

I was laid back with # 1, even more laid back with # 2. Now that # 3 & # 4 will be here soon, I can't even imagine how much more laid back I will get. I may let the twins eat a happy meal at 3 weeks old.

AHAHAHAHAHA
Yes, what all of the above posters have said. I forgot I was pregnant half the time, I didn't really journal my pregnancy experiences as I had with the first etc etc. I definitely spent less time/focus on decorating the nursery, finding cute outfits, finding the "perfect" toys etc, bc I learned that my time with the littles was more important than the stress and the time goes so fast, soon the clothes no longer fit, the nursery becomes a toddler room, and the toys are aged out, so I try to enjoy the moment and not think about the stuff, esp since you have so much less time with 2 kids in the house. I also stopped being obsessed with how things are "SUPPOSED" to BE and when things are "SUPPOSED" to happen bc I learned from number 1 that you dont need to obsess over these things as the baby will tell YOU when they are supposed to happen. Also, I am less rigid about food timelines and other such things,,, i would pretty much flip out if someone gave DD #1 a bite of cake before she turned one, now id like DD #2 take a lick of whipped cream at 4 months bc I realize none of it really matters, they will grow and be happy and healthy all the same. The one thing that I did do more rigidly was put DD#2 in the crib for all her naps etc.. from very early on and she is a much better sleeper than my frist who always napped in a swing or by rocking and was and is a horrible sleeper!! I couldn't get the hang of nursing for 1 or 2.. maybe 3 lol, on between happy meals. lol

Re: How did you change from dc1 to dc2?
I learned from my mistakes with #1:
Put kid 2 on a strict regimen for naps & sleep. No rocking, no swinging.
Entertaining a baby is ridiculous; just took the second one along for the ride.
Didn't stress milestones (I would have loved for her to walk as late as possible since #1 was walking at 11 mo).
Stages come & go: so I had less stress in my life with each one.
Food became a battle in which I won: kids don't starve.
I also learned that your love grows when you have another (as opposed to is split).

Re: How did you change from dc1 to dc2?
I relaxed with my 2nd! My first I never slept, I stayed up watching her breathe for months. I was crazzzzzzy nervous. Scooped her up for every bump and fall. My second is one tough cookie and I really think it's because we never babied her.
I'm finding at age 2 & 4. I can't parent them the same at all. So what I did at 2 for my first I really can't do for my 2nd. You really learn after your first that parenting isn't really a style or black and white...it's all about survival

How did you change from dc1 to dc2?
Changed my mentality! I feel less guilty about things like stepping away to cook/ clean etc. and taking time away from the baby. My DS#1 doesn't really care now and will join me when he wants to help, so thinking DS#2 doesn't even realize Im gone and hes just happy when Im back, and he can join me when hes older lol. I used to feel so bad working, then coming home to cook/ clean etc. Now I try to balance better. I also try to give DS #2 individual attention like DS #1 got, when the older one is playing, etc. And I do try to keep up with the baby book, etc for #2 so he doesnt notice a difference, even though I know its not important

I am definitely relaxed this pregnancy, I guess mainly because I am always chasing after DS.

Re: How did you change from dc1 to dc2?
I may be the only one who was more nervous with my 2nd lol. With my first I really didnt know what to expect. So I was always excited for appts etc. With my 2nd I was older, 36 and at every appt I was soooo nervous, thinking the worst. Also with my 1st i had an emergency c section. I didnt have time to be scared or nervous. With my 2nd it was scheduled and knew what i was in for. Lol. Either way, you do the best you can and take it one day at a time.

Re: How did you change from dc1 to dc2?
I did not enroll DS#2 in the baby classes. I did not feel guilty when I stopped breastfeeding at 8 months. I did not revolve our lives around DS#2's nap schedule. He got dragged everywhere and fell asleep along the way. I don't mess with milestones or monitor his height/weight.
I have no idea how tall my children are right now or how much they weigh. I just know my 5 year old has outgrown all his clothes after I just bought him all new clothes this fall.
The single biggest change from DC1 to DC2 is that DH and I don't have much alone time. When we had 1 DC, we took turns a lot. DH and I still had a social life outside of the kids. We would go out alone or together with friends as well as date nights. Now our lives revolve around the kids.
I notice our friends with just 1 have a much different lifestyle than friends with 2 or more kids.

Re: How did you change from dc1 to dc2?
The only thing I did exactly the same was being a slave to my 2nd child's nap schedule. I am a firm believer in napping/sleeping in his crib on schedule. I think it's so important and even though it was a pain for the rest of us for a year or so (while he was doing two naps) I think it's worth it.
I am MUCH more lax about his diet because I don't have much say when he sees what DD is eating. DD didn't have a lollipop until she was 2, DS had one much earlier. He definitely gets more sweets than her.

Re: How did you change from dc1 to dc2?
Everyone always said that I was never a typical first time mom. I've always been super laid back. I find that I'm very similar with how I was with ds1 with ds2. If anything, I'm more nervous with my younger DS because he's on the smaller side, has low muscle tone, and tends to fall/get hurt more.
