Sleep issues w dc1 after bringing home dc2???

Sadie gas always been a great sleeper but lately she has been a nightmare going to bed. First off she's got like 10 things she NEEDS to have in her bed. Her game fir the past few weeks has been to "lose" something and call for us to come help her find it. We would go in once or twice ---- no biggie.

The last two nights have been terrible. She was in such hysterics last night that she didn't fall asleep till 9 and woke up at 2am w another tantrum. We got no sleep. Then she only slept 30 min for nap today and she is so totally exhausted she is acting out like crazy.

Do I let her CIO? She's 27 months and we've never had to really do that before.

I'm having a rough transition w the new baby as it is and this is just adding to my guilt and anxiety :(

Re: Sleep issues w dc1 after bringing home dc2???

dd is 3 1/2 and ds is 5 weeks. Not only did she start waking at night, but she was night trained for 2 months and once new baby came home, she started wetting the bed, went back into pull ups and is soaking right through them. My only advice is to ride it out b/c it has to get better! That's what I keep telling myself. This is a bit of a hiccup but she'll get back on track.

DD's are 4 weeks old and while going to bed isn't a problem, waking up is. Ever since I went to the hospital to have the girls, DS has decided his new wake up time is 5:15. Sometimes even earlier! He used to sleep until 7:30. I keep praying it will go back, but so far nada. Chat Icon Chat Icon

The new baby has only been home one night but DS went to bed fine but was up a million times last night crying for me to make sure I was there and to put on his blankets and whatever else. We seem to be having a rough transition also. I would let her cry it out. I know its gonna be rough with the guilty feelings and the new baby but she might just need some boundries set.
I hope things get better for you.

For us JJ was not "sleep trained" until the new baby came home because I didn't get a chance to do it (8 weeks early). Then when we brought the baby home, we thought there were too many changes but after about 3 weeks of me waking with both kids in the middle of the night, we had to do CIO with JJ. It was the BEST thing.

Once he realized that everyone had a bedtime including baby & him, he was ok

Re: Sleep issues w dc1 after bringing home dc2???

Yes, I went through this. My DS was 28 mos. My newborn DD slept better than my DS when she first came home. After a month of him waking up with one issue or another or wanting to sleep in our bed (this was the big thing b/c DD was in our room in the bassinet - prior to this he slept in our bed less than a handful of times) I put an end to it. Not sure if others will agree with this but, it worked for us. Bribery - or, as I like to call it - incentive compesnsation Chat Icon Chat Icon DS was obsesses with Thomas. I explained to him that every night he went to sleep with no issues and slept through the entire night until I came to get him in the morning he would get a train. It worked like a charm. After 2 wks DH said we could sleep in the waldorf for what it was costing us Chat Icon So, it became he got a train after 3 days, then a week, and soon none at all.

Re: Sleep issues w dc1 after bringing home dc2???

Aidan definitely went through some sleep regression when we brought Julian home. He generally was a good sleeper up until that point. He also started with needing 50 million things in the crib, trying to prolong his bedtime, etc. He also wanted to sleep on the couch or have us sleep on his bedroom floor. I tried all of these things for a night or 2 but it wasn't any better. We wound up doing CIO with him. We also were sure to give him enough notice that bedtime was coming (Ex- Aidan, 15 minutes until bed, we're going to bed when Einsteins are over, etc). We only had to do CIO for a few nights and he was much better.
