If DC1 and DC2 are 3-4 years apart, how and when
did you tell them you were pregnant?
DS is 3yrs3mos now and I am 7 weeks pregnant. We've been waiting to tell him about the baby until we are a bit farther along. I don't think he really "gets" what brothers and sisters are, especially since DH and I are only children. Not really sure how to tell him/explain it to him.
Any tips?

Congrats!! I don't have experience, but my SIL didnt tell her kids until she was about 20 weeks. Then she bought a doll for her DD so she could "practice" how to treat a baby. Being quiet, gentle, etc.

Im 29 weeks pregnant and my son just turned 3 in august...i just told him he was going to have a little brother or sister, he overheard us talking about it with ym parents so i felt i needed to tell him...then i bought him a book about it
He doesnt understand at all the baby is in my belly, which is hard cause he wants to jump on me and stuff but he understands that a baby is coming which s good

Re: If DC1 and DC2 are 3-4 years apart, how and when
We didn't really tell until there was a visible bump. So probably around 6-7 months.
Sometimes my husband forgot i was pregnant until there was a belly so i figured telling our 3 year old was probably too much to grasp. Not to mention i didn't want him asking every day if the baby was coming for 10 long months!

Re: If DC1 and DC2 are 3-4 years apart, how and when
My girls are 5 and 3.5 years older than their little brother and I told them after the ultrascreen around 12-13 weeks. I had a miscarriage at 9.5 weeks the year before that, so there was no way I would have told them any earlier.

Re: If DC1 and DC2 are 3-4 years apart, how and when
DS is 4y and DD is 2.5-we told them at 8 weeks. They didn't get it until we showed them pictures from the sono (they came with us) and reiterated there was a baby in my belly.
We also didn't tell them until the day before we were telling our family, so that they didn't slip.
My kids totally get there is a baby in my belly and talk to him/her through my belly button.

Re: If DC1 and DC2 are 3-4 years apart, how and when
There is 3 years between DS and DD. We told DS that I was pg when I was 12 weeks (after the NT scan). There will also be 3 years between DD and this baby. We told DS and DD that I was pg also at about 12 weeks and after the NT scan. DS understood a little better when my belly started big and it was the same with DD this time.

My girls were 3 and 4 years old when I was pregnant with their brother. I showed them the ultrasound and told them there was a baby in my belly. I recorded it too My 3 year old got it before my 4 year old did

Re: If DC1 and DC2 are 3-4 years apart, how and when
I got pregnant with #2 about two months before our DD turned 4. We told her right away and she gets that she is having a little brother. We take her to every OB visit and sono and she is very involved in anything we are doing to get ready for the baby (like setting up the nursery) so I think including her a lot has helped her understand everything that is going on.
She also has many friends with siblings so we used them as an example to explain to her what it means to have a little brother or sister. She gets it but she is a little older too........she will be 4.5 when our son is born.

Re: If DC1 and DC2 are 3-4 years apart, how and when
My boys are 3.5 years apart. I had some concerns with some of the screening tests so I waited until after my Level II at 18 weeks to tell him. He understood when I told him I had a baby in my belly and he was going to be a big brother. He was so excited and told everyone at daycare the next day. We got him some big brother books to prepare and talked a lot about the baby during my pregnancy.
I love the age difference. DS1 has been a great big brother so far. The boys adore each other. Congratulations!
