how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
My sonogram said the baby already weighs 7.6 lbs!!! I'm due August 10th so either she's coming early or she's going to be a big girl! I was just wondering how accurate they usually are, any experiences with this ladies?

Re: how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
DS was estimated to weigh 8 lbs 4oz the day before he was born. He weighed 8lbs, 6oz.. He always measured 2 weeks ahead at all my sono's...

Re: how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
Way off!! From 32 weeks they were telling me she was big...at my last sono she measured 8lbs 11oz...the dr even suggested that her size may be the reason she never decended...I had a c-section & DD came out 7lbs 1 oz!!! The dr. responded by sayinh there is a 15?% error rate in either direction with those sono measurements

Re: how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
DS #1 was measured at 8lbs 6 oz, when he was born he was 7lbs 5oz. I say, not accurate.

Re: how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
Mine was exactly 1 lb off. The afternoon of 12/23 they estimated DD would be 8lb 2oz and the morning of 12/24 when she was born, she was 7lb 2 oz.

Re: how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
Not at all accurate! They kept telling me that DD was going to be over 10 lbs. I thought I'd definitely go early! Well, I had to be induced - 10 days after my due date - and DD was only 8 lbs 9oz.

Re: how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
My doctors kept telling me my LO was a big baby... I never believed them... kept thinking the sono was off...
At 38 weeks, he measured 8 lbs 10 oz... He was born 4 days later at 8 lbs 15 oz.
Apparently their sono tech is VERY good at measurements!
I'm gonna believe her this time around. lol

Re: how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
Not at all for me. DS was estimated to be 8 lbs 12 oz at 38.5 weeks. He arrived via c-section at 39.5 weeks and was 7 lbs 12 oz. He had a big head so that probably threw their measurements off.

Re: how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
Not that accurate for me either. They measured him at 6 lbs 10 oz and he was born a week later at 8 lbs 4 oz. I suppose it's possible he gained that much in a week, but it seems like an awful lot!

Re: how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
Completely inaccurate. Charlie was measuring about 2w early and even when she was crowning the Dr said she was at least a 9lber
She was born 7lbs, 2oz.

DS was estimated at 7lbs 8oz, born 3 days later at 7lbs 14oz. I'd say they were close.

Re: how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
the measure the baby's head circ, belly circ and length of femur to get their "estimate"... if your baby has a large or small head, or long limbs etc ... the estimate could be off.
its an average at best

Re: how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
I don't know about mine yet, but my SIL's was WAY off. They were talking an 8-9 lb. baby and my nephew was 6 lbs. 14 oz. My brother had to run out and get premie clothes because everything else was swimming on him!
ETA: At 35 weeks, was measuring 6 lbs. 4 oz., so we'll see! The OB said that was in the 67th percentile and a bit on the big side.

Re: how accurate was sonogram weight estimate?
Not accurate at all for me. With my ds I had a sono the day I went into labor. He was estimated at over 8lbs and I was told if I went another week I was looking at a 9lbs baby. My water broke that night and my ds was born less than 24 hours later weighing 6lbs 15oz.
I think they can be off 1-2lbs in either direction
