If your OB's weight estimate for DC was off by alot
Did they use a sono to estimate the weight? I had my almost 33 wk visit today and the sono tech estimated baby to be 5 lbs. That seems like a lot, although according to my book its only a week ahead. OB said its 79th percentile. DS was 8 lbs 15oz, 10 days early, my OB with him guessed he was around 8 lbs but by feeling him not by sono. Looks like is on target to be a big baby too huh?

Re: If your OB's weight estimate for DC was off by alot
when I had my growthsono at NSUM DS was estimated around 8 lbs. I elected to have c section bc of the size, he was 5 pounds 14 oz at birth when they showed him to me, I thought is that an 8 LB baby??!
he had long legs a HUGE head, and fat belly. they use those measurements to guess the weight.

Re: If your OB's weight estimate for DC was off by alot
My daughter was estimated at 36 weeks, to weight around 8lbs 3oz. At birth, she was 6lbs 9oz. My son at 36 weeks was estimated to be around 7lbs. He weighed 8lbs at birth. Both estimates were done using sono at 36 weeks.

Re: If your OB's weight estimate for DC was off by alot
gees..at my 30 week sono htey were measuring me at 33 weeks..3 weeks ahead. apparently the head was big. They were freaking me out b/c at 30 weeks they were saying over 6lbs estimated. if i carried to 40 weeks i would have given birth to a linebacker.
My original OB was asking me to consider scheduling a csection b/c of these measurements and i wouldnt. DS was born 40 weeks on his due date, 7lbs 13 oz. so much for their measurements.

Re: If your OB's weight estimate for DC was off by alot
I had a Dr(specialist), not a tech do my growth sono at 31 weeks. DD was a little over 5lbs at this point He said she would be 10lbs 3oz at 40 weeks. I was scheduled for a c/s at 38 weeks, so he said 9lbs 3oz. She was EXACTLY that! He was on the $.

Re: If your OB's weight estimate for DC was off by alot
A few days before my eldest daughter was born she estimated to be 5lbs 5oz. At not quite 36 weeks gestation this was pretty much right on track...(Sono)
She was born at exactly 36 weeks weighing 7lbs 15oz!!!
My twins were estimated to be 4lbs 14oz and 5lbs 6 oz the day before they were born. They were right on, for the most part...4lbs 14oz & 5lbs...(Sono)
DS was estimated the week before he was born to be 7lbs 1oz. (By the doctor feeling my stomach) He was 7bs 10oz when he was born. (babies gain 1/2 lb per week at that age so the doctor was dead on)

Re: If your OB's weight estimate for DC was off by alot
I had a growth sono at 36 weeks where the dr estimated that DD would be over 10 lbs if I went to her due date. He said he would schedule a c section if I went past 38 weeks. My water broke 10 days early and I ended up with a c section anyway. She was 8lbs 11oz. It possible she could have been 10 lbs at 40 weeks.

Re: If your OB's weight estimate for DC was off by alot
DD was measuring 8.5 lbs according to a sono at 38 weeks. Her abdominal measurement was big and they said she would probably be very big, and suggested a C section.
She was born via C at 39.5 weeks at 8 lbs, 6 oz. She was very tall so they guessed after the fact that she was scrunched up in there, skewing the measurement.
I was annoyed because I could have delivered naturally. Oh well!

Re: If your OB's weight estimate for DC was off by alot
My OBs did sonos at every visit and by the last measurement, DD was over 8 lbs a few days before my induction. They were right on - she was born at 8 lbs 10 oz. A resident checked her size by feel the day of and thought she was 7-8 lbs. She was off.
My nephew was supposed to be over 8 pounds - they induced my SIL early as a result and they were WAY off - I think by over 2 lbs and the induction failed so she ended up having a C.

Re: If your OB's weight estimate for DC was off by alot
The regular sono tech told me all along DS would be about 6.5-7 lbs. I had a sub one one day at the end and she told me he was 8 lbs! DS was 6 lb, 3 ounces.
