we would not consider a house w/o a garage.

ditto

same here

Same here too. We're currently house-shopping and don't even look at houses without a garage. DH wants a garage for his car and "shop" and to work on his car even if it's raining, etc.
Plus it is always nice for extra storage Chat Icon

i can't speak for other buyers, but, if you have indoor storage elsewhere... basement, attic, closets, it would be okay. i don't think people use garages for the purpose of cars anymore, for goodness sake. Mostly, i see people using it for storage (all my neighbors, anyway). mine has been converted.. before i moved in.

I agree, i havent seen someone pull into their garage in a long time , I always see cars parked in the driveway beacuse i think people use their garages for storage , or maybe work ie: husbands space LOL

Do you have a basement or attic? We are looking at houses now, and we need one of the 3 for storage, be it attic, basement, or garage. If you don't have an attic or basement, I think it would deter buyers.

I agree with that. I had never had a garage. On my parents block none of the houses did, unless a detached garage was added later. They did have a basement & attic & shed though, and that is more than enough room to store things. To much space = too much junk. Some people will want it for the cars, some people won't care. I wouldn't care.

Re: House without a garage?

i dont have a garage it is extra living space. the driveway is fine. we also have a big shed and an attic (no basement) so that is enough. the deal breaker would be the cieling height not the lack of garage.

Re: House without a garage?

DH NEEDED a garage. It wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me, but was for him. We found a house that was perfect for us but didn't have a garage. We still bid on it but only after we confirmed with the town that we could add one. Wound up falling through in the end.

Our house now has a two car garage, basement, and attic, so DH is very happy.

Re: House without a garage?

A garage is fairly high on our list but, to me, a 1 car garage is the same as not having one, and there seem to be such few 1 car ones anyway. So it's not a deal breaker.

In fact the #2 house on your list has no garage. that fact that it has such little storage is more of the deal breaker. But it has a FABULOUS kitchen so it evens out!

Re: House without a garage?

coming from someone who parks on the street now

I want a garage

at least 1 car- DH has a convertiable with a special cover for the back seats- and he would use it more if we had a garage to pull the car into at night

plus- I am sick of looking at the 5 foot by 4 foot metalic blue thing all the time

and the bike he doesn't ride

so pretty much we need a garage

Re: House without a garage?

If we were spending a lot less for the lack of the garage, I might go look at the house but I do not think that my DH would even get that far. The funny part is that he was really adament about that but now lets me use our one car garage for my car, not his Chat Icon .

Re: House without a garage?

It would depend on if there was an attic and a basement; if yes, then we'd probably be ok with just a shed. Otherwise we need the garage for storage and the lawnmower, tools, etc.
