Hot coffee
Am i alone in this?
When I’m drinking a cup of coffee, I need it to be hot. Like probably unreasonably hot. As soon as it begins to cool, I’m disappointed. If I’m interrupted during my first few sips of the boiling hot coffee, I want to start swinging.
Don’t get me wrong, i love iced coffee too but that’s because I bought it as iced coffee and want that. But with a regular cup- BOILING LAVA
anyone else? DH thinks I’m being ridiculous bc I’m on a quest to find a coffee mug that will keep it piping hot through my entire cup

Re: Hot coffee
Have you tried microwaving the empty mug to warm it up before you pour the coffee in? I do that so that the chill of the ceramic goes away.
There are also those coffee mug warming plates...I’ve never used one but it may be worth looking into!

Re: Hot coffee
You can also put some super hot water in your cup for a few minutes to warm it up before you fill it with coffee I find that helps.

I saw the warming plates on amazon. Was considering trying that. And I microwave the cup after it’s done brewing ! Because the milk I put in brings temp down ruining it almost Instantly lol and if I use a 1/4 cup it’s a lot. I’ve been using travel mugs and it’s OK but I don’t enjoy drinking out of those. I know. I should save this for a FWP threadb

Re: Hot coffee
I am not really a coffee drinker - tea here - but OMG same!!
I have always said that I need my hot drinks to be one degree under the temperature at which I would get a third degree burn in my mouth.
I am constantly microwaving my hot drinks.
My mom and her brother are the same way so I wonder if it's hereditary.

Get a Yeti cup. My friend swears by it and she got one for my husband (they work together) and I swear all he talks about is how hot his coffee is 2 hours later. Hes mentioned it so many times hes driving me nuts but apparently its an awesome coffee mug. lol

Re: Hot coffee
I love my coffee to be hot. It tastes the best that way. Those first few sips are just aahhhhh. That's why I don't really like Keurig, the water isn't hot enough. At home I make pour over, so the water is just short of boiling when I make my coffee. The mug gets warmed up with hot water and the milk comes out of the fridge to temp up a little before I pour it in. Sometimes I nuke the milk to take the chill out of it. If I'm really in the mood, I pour my coffee into a thermal carafe to keep warm and pour out smaller amounts to drink.
I have a ceramic lined travel container that I sometimes use, but not on a regular basis.

You will not regret that. They really stay hot for so long. I definitely recommend the magnetic lids too, no icky crevices to try to clean.

Re: Hot coffee
HA! It's so funny that you say this because I feel the same.
I love coffee - hot or iced.
If it started out hot, then I have to drink it hot, even if I heat it up a million times in the microwave. I like it unreasonably hot too.
If it started out cold - then obviously it'll stay cold and I'll drink it that way.
BUT I cannot drink cold coffee that originated as hot coffee. Nor can I take the originated hot coffee and turn it into iced coffee.
People think I am nuts!

Did you try the aluminum mugs or travel mugs? I find they retain heat or keep things very cold.

I’ve been using a travel mug. It’s eh. Plus i don’t like the opening on the ones I have. Like the rim is too thick and I don’t like how my bottom lip feels
I sound like a maniac
ETA: I’m also the type of person where the thickness of a glass makes a difference in how something tastes. If I’m drinking soda, it HAS to be in a thin glass. Not a thick glass, plastic tumbler or heaven forbid a coffee mug It changes the entire taste and feel Of the soda.

Hot coffee
The biggest thing you're missing IMHO is heating the mug. What you need to do is have very hot wter in the mug before you put coffee in. Then dump the hot water and go. How are you making coffee? what is your coffeemaker, that could be the problem too.
Once coffee goes in the microwave I'm basically done. can't do it, changes the flavor especially if there is milk in it.
in the AM I make my coffee, 2 cups in my coffee maker. I prewarm my Travel mug and immediately put 1 cup in there, then drink the 2nd cup. Works for me. I have a Cusinart 1200 coffee maker and am happy.
Current travel mug is a Yeti, but I had a Contigo previously and was happy with that, but wanted something more traditional. both keep things hot, if you prewarm.

I swear to God, a vodka soda tastes 100% different in the perfect glass. It has to be a short rocks glass with a good heft to it and a nice solid rim

I’m going to get the yeti and try that. Also with the hot water in the mug first. I’ll try anything! We have the new keiurig that makes lattes and Capps too. We have the setting on hottest. And the coffee itself is piping hot when it comes out. I drink a cup of black coffee mid day (saving calories) and that cup stays hot a lot longer That he one with the milk in it. Not as long as I’d like, but that’s where a travel mug comes in! Lol I’ve switched to my farberware perculator to see if that made a difference. Nope. Same old same. Coffee hot, add milk. Sip. Not hot enough. Microwave to scalding. Few sips of heaven, and it’s all downhill from There

Hot coffee
As others suggested, get a Yeti cup! Until then, "heat " your mug with hot water for a few minutes before you pour your coffee , and if you use milk, warm it up first. I'm not like this, but my mom is! Coffee is NEVER hot enough for her! We could be out, bith get a cup, mine is steaming, can't drink it, and even though hers is exactly the same, she says it's ice cold, lol!

Re: Hot coffee
That's so strange! How does it not burn your tongue off? I'm the exact opposite. I can't drink hot liquids. If I try, my mouth burns and then peels (super painful and gross I know lol). I always get iced coffee or lattes from Starbucks. If I get a hot drink, I literally have to let it cool for at least 30 mins before I can even take a sip. I don't know what's wrong with me.
You need these: Coffee Joulies They absorb the heat to keep your coffee the perfect temp for longer. Since you like it boiling hot, you would heat them up first & then put them in your coffee cup. They'll keep your coffee hotter for much longer.

heat up your milk so your not bring the temp down, in addition to heating up your cup, might help.

LOL, my mom will only drink coffee or tea out of a mug that is white ceramic inside. She says it doesn't taste good otherwise!

Re: Hot coffee
I need it boiling hot as well. Like none of this in between sH*t. Either iced cold with a lot of ice, or burning hot.
once it starts to get warm I have to reheat. I too have been on a quest for a mug that will keep coffee warm for a long time. I have some stainless steel ones that are so so, but then you cant microwave those.
when I have been making it with the Ninja bar I got for xmas (which I find brews hotter than the Keurig did) I heat up my half and half first (also b/c i froth it) but this way its hot going in and doesnt cool down the coffee fast. At work I do not have this luxury..lol.
if someone has a good mug please share!
