Honestly.......how do you know labor is starting???!!!!
It's so confusing!!!!...........and googling early labor and labor is NOT helping. Although I am having #2 I have NO clue because with my DD my water broke and gushed.......there was NO question, I was in labor. But right now, I just don't know what to make of anything.
Starting last week I noticed the baby slowing down a lot and being less active. He also dropped........A LOT. Then on Friday I just started feeling weird and "off". Just didn't feel like myself and I noticed I was constantly in the bathroom..........(TMI) #2 multiple times a day and it hasn't stopped. I have also been constantly queasy every day too.
Then on Sunday I had some pretty crazy BH contractions, they were non stop for a while. Now since Sunday while I get a few BH I have noticed a dull backache that comes and goes and I started with menstrual like cramps which at times are constant (hours long) and hurt. I am so miserable.
I finally have an OB appt today and I have a sono and NST so I know I will get some more clarity this afternoon but still..........what do you make of all this??? Is this early stages of labor or is it nothing and I can be in for it for another two weeks? I just don't know. I am 37w4d.

with #1, I lost the mucus plug the day before so I had an inkling it was coming- next am, bloody show and then period cramps in my back- then 2 hours later no mistaking the contractions
eta- I also pooped my brains out the am of the birth

it sounds like your body is getting ready. Not sure if it's actual labor but I think you are getting ready but don't get to excited. I went into preterm with dd at 34 weeks and still had her 2 days before due date.
For me i woke up at 12 am with contractions. There was no mistaking them. I had no other idea I was going to go into labor that day.

I knew I was starting to go into labor when I had contractions starting at about 14 minutes apart while I was at work. They kept up all day and got slightly stronger at night. That early morning I woke up to contractions 4 minutes apart. Other than that, I had no indication of labor.

I think your body preparing for labor can be a long stage and not quite clear. It's hard to know even when you're in the early stages of real labor. But labor to the point of you need to get to the hospital you will know...

God I hope it's not long!! 
Off to the OB soon so hoping I can shed a little more light on how I am feeling. For once, I am looking forward to my OB appt.

This is exactly what is happening right now...i just came back from the OB and they said im in the early stages of labor but it could take a while or it can happen very quickly depending on your body...

Exactly what you described is how I went into labor with both my boys. With #1, it intensified so much that by the time we left for hospital I could barely walk. I was 6cm upon arrival.

This is what makes me nervous...............I feel like I am not sure when to call OB and head over. Everyone keeps saying when contractions are regular but it seems like something is going on. That's why I am glad to have an OB appt today. I am losing it. LOL

I know I feel the same way about Riley!! I feel like my parents won't make it up to me in time and I'm gonna have this baby on my front steps at 2AM!! LOL

You know what you can do.............if you registered online you can actually adjust her birthday so she "appears" 4 when the class starts. I did that with Emerson in Sept. She was just a few weeks from being 4 and I knew she would be fine at the drop off farm class so I changed her bday and then it let me sign her up.

Everything with baby is great!!! He is measuring perfectly, HB is strong, and all is well. OB said it sounds like the start of things but just have to hang in there until its time. Guess I am stuck waiting and crossing my fingers. But at least everything with he baby is good and healthy so that's all that matters.
