Homeowner's insurance claim
My shed was robbed 2 weeks ago and we're trying to get all the paperwork finished for the insurance company. Some of the items that were stolen were paintball supplies/equipment bought on ebay for what my DH says were good deals. The insurance forms ask where the product was bought. It doesn't ask how much we paid for it, but asks what the current replacement value is. I told him to put down that he got it on ebay and what it will cost now to replace it. He is afraid that if we put that down that we won't get as much as the stuff is worth.
They're asking for as many receipts as we have of course.
My opinion is that even if he got a "great deal" on something, that it will still cost $xyz to replace it now, regardless of how much we paid.
If we don't put down ebay, where do we say we bought the items?
Any thoughts?

Re: Homeowner's insurance claim
Don't they consider depreciation on the items based on their age anyway?
I wouldn't lie about where I bought them, but I would do comparable searches on eBay for what it would cost you *now* to buy it used.
Sorry this happened and good luck with your claim!

Re: Homeowner's insurance claim
why don't you look up the person you bought from on ebay and see if they have a "store name" that way, you say your purchased it from their rather than ebay, no issue anymore....
