Although they were reporting no delays on the main line of the LIRR, took my DH over 90 mins to get in from Hicksville. He said they literally just stopped for 30 mins outside Mineola. He is not a happy camper.

I attempted to get into Manhattan from Queens and couldn't so I am home and will wait until about 11:00 to try to get in again.

Subways are down. Express buses are all screwed up. I attempted to carpool and we went 3 blocks in a half of an hour Chat Icon

Re: Holy unbelievable commute

My normal morning commute (by car) begins at 6:30 and I arrive at my destination by 6:45...today I didn't get in until 7:15! And of course my problem wasn't sitting in traffic, it was driving through the monsoon!

I think they closed part of the westbound GCP for flooding. When I left Queens, a TON of cars were getting off at Francis Lewis, probably in an effort to get to the LIE. It is a real mess.

Eastbound was better than usual.

I was lucky - we arrived in Penn only 10 mins late, but Penn is a zoo because the subways are not running. Our office is deserted, so I think a lot of people decided to stay home.

Seriously...what a bad start to the day. My commute on the LIRR was fine..which is a shock..but it was such an early train that I was able to avoid the problems they are experiencing now. The subway was a whole differnt story. They wouldn't let anyone through and they didn't make any announcements...a girl told me what she had read on her blackberry - that the lines were all down.

Re: Holy unbelievable commute

My ride in from LI via LIRR was normal (I think at least... I slept from point A to point B). Usually I'll walk from Penn to where I work (Park Ave) but decided since it was raining to take the Subway... I head over to where the 1, 2, and 3 are... out of service... so I head over to the A, C, and E and the E train is only running uptown to 42nd street as the A train (Chat Icon). I made it to 42nd street and thought I should have no problem taking the Shuttle to Grand Central, my reasoning, it's underground all the time, no flooding. Well, after making my way thru the hoards of sweaty people (traffic on the Southern State was a BREEZE compared to this) I make to the Shuttle only to find out... not running Chat Icon. I have to walk alllll the way back to the 7 train and take that to Grand Central... when I finally hit the street... it's bone dry and the sun is starting to come out. This is my life. Oh yeah and in the midst of all of this, I step in gum, which somehow ends up on the inside sole of my flip flop Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I finally got to work at 9 after stepping off the LIRR at 7:50. I could've walked from Penn to work and back at least 3 times in that span of time.Chat Icon

Re: Holy unbelievable commute

I spent an hour on Rt 110 in Farmingdale...there was a HUGE lake under the train tracks right past Conklin Street...it was horrible....people were, driving in reverse...driving on the sidewalks almost hitting people walking...it was CRAZY!
and there was several cars stuck under the tracks in the middle of the deep water.
the worst part is we are all stuck there and people are honking at each other...expecting people to move...um hello, where do you want us to go...I wasn't driving my little car thru that water nor was I driving in reverse to climb up the curb and drive on the sidewalk...I swear people are retarded!

Eventually the NYSDOT came with these LONG poles and unclogged the sewers...the water started slowly going down, enough that we could pass...so I made it to work an hour late...but in one piece and my car wasn't flooded

Re: Holy unbelievable commute

By some grace of God I made it here with very little delays. And, the train was EMPTY Chat Icon I think I got on if not THE only, then one of, that made a stop in Queens which happens to be my stop and went back into Manhattan. Chat Icon

ETS: DH said he saw people fighting on the busses and at the bus stops. Like real fighting. Throwing arms around Chat Icon . It's not that serious people. If you get to work late, there's nothing you can do about it, you're late.

I had no problems, since I live and work in Suffolk, so I got to work before the storm really hit.

A coworker, however, lives in Queens, and basically followed the storm out east. His 1.5 hour commute took over 3 hours today! Chat Icon

Next time it rains, I am staying home. My train was an hour late. This just happened a couple of weeks ago. Chat Icon
And to make it worse I was sitting next to a woman who was TOTALLY in my space and next hitting me with her elbow. She constantly was running her fingers through her hair, going through her bag, playing with her ipod, brushing her hair, moving along with the beat of the music on her ipod -which I could hear, and flipping the pages of her magazine like she had some sort of personal vendetta against it.
I was so ready to knock her out.

My 15-minute commute took me 40 minutes. I caught a subway for 10 blocks, then they had everyone deboard so I walked the remaining 30 blocks. I didn't mind, it felt good. It could've been worse if it was still raining!

That's what I had the last rain storm. Takes me 1 hour normally, but during that rain storm it took me 4 hours. Today, I tried 2 different routes and only moved 3 miles in 1 hour's time. Since I still had 22 more miles to go until I got to my office, I turned around and went home. Currently VPNing without an issue....

My boss told me that the delays were not because of the rain, but because they were repaving the northern state/meadowbrook interchange. Yeah buddy, sure. That explains why I couldnt go faster than 3 miles per hour on Sunrise Hwy..... Chat Icon

Re: Holy unbelievable commute

I waited about 30 minutes for my express bus to arrive, mind you on a line of about 50 people. I couldn't get on the first bus b/c it was packed. I got on the second bus, but had to stand. The bus ride itself took 1 hr. and 45 mins. I ended up sitting on the floor in the aisle b/c I was getting a bit queasy. So annoying!

I really felt like I should've been rewarded for making it into the office today considering half the people didn't even show up!Chat Icon
