Holy Storm!!!! Now there's a Tornado Warning!!!!
We are getting the worst storm I think I have ever seen here in Valley Stream right now.
The lightning and thunder are ridiculous!
TORNADO WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE UPTON NY 650 AM EDT WED AUG 8 2007
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON NY HAS ISSUED A
* TORNADO WARNING FOR... SOUTHERN QUEENS COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NEW YORK... SOUTHWESTERN NASSAU COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NEW YORK... EASTERN KINGS COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NEW YORK...
* UNTIL 715 AM EDT...
* AT 644 AM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO NEAR CANARSIE... OR ABOUT NEAR CROWN HEIGHTS...MOVING EAST AT 15 MPH.
* THE TORNADO WILL BE NEAR... JAMAICA BY 700 AM... KENNEDY AIRPORT BY 705 AM... CEDARHURST BY 710 AM... WOODMERE...VALLEY STREAM... LYNBROOK AND ATLANTIC BEACH BY 715 AM.
WHEN A TORNADO WARNING IS ISSUED BASED ON DOPPLER RADAR...IT MEANS THAT STRONG ROTATION HAS BEEN DETECTED IN THE STORM. A TORNADO MAY ALREADY BE ON THE GROUND...OR IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP SHORTLY. IF YOU ARE IN THE PATH OF THIS DANGEROUS STORM...MOVE INDOORS AND TO THE LOWEST LEVEL OF THE BUILDING. STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS. IF DRIVING...DO NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER A HIGHWAY OVERPASS.
HEAVY RAINFALL MAY OBSCURE THIS TORNADO. TAKE COVER NOW! IF YOU WAIT TO SEE OR HEAR IT COMING...IT MAY BE TOO LATE TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE.

I just came up from the basement. We had some weird siren going and as soon as the mentioned my town and the tornado touchdown near Kennedy I was def freaking out. The wind was unbelievable. Thank goodness it is just raining now

We just came up from the basement as well.
In the middle of the storm, our doorbell decided to short circuit and was going off like crazy. Freaked me out at first because we were in the basement and I thought *maybe* it was the police or something... We couldn't figure out how to stop it, so DH pulled some wires out of where the doorbell box is. It stopped it from dinging, but now we have to figure out how to re-wire an 80 year old doorbell

Girls, I was driving on Ocean Parkway from Long Beach to Hauppauge during this.
I've never been so scared in my life. A bolt of lightning struck on the north side of the parkway and it was close enough for me to see it in explicit detail and make my ears ring. The brightness made an impression on my vision like the sun would. Less than a minute later, a second bolt touched down on the south side of the parkway.
That's when I put my foot down and sped like a bat out of hell to get out of that area.
Then I had to go over the causeway bridge and there's a tarp covering the middle of the span so I got a good look at the driving rain for those few seconds of cover. Scary stuff, to be up that high and see everything in detail.
I usually love big storms but this morning scared the hell out of me.

wow that is some scary stuff, Thank god everyone is ok. The scientist beleive that the reason we our having these bad storms and tornado and hurricanes more frequent and more intense is due to global warming.

i took today off...i must have slept through this whole storm! i woke up at 9am and turned on the news and i was like "what storm???" . i cant believe all of this happened and i had no idea!!!!!

I didn't realize they had posted a tornado warning Thank God I didn't see that considering we are in a second floor apt and would have had nowhere to go .
That was honestly the worst storm I think I've ever heard. The lightening, thunder and rain was incredible!! It woke me and DS up. AND we lost our electricity (luckily only for a couple of hours).
Glad everyone is OK.

Was the worse than the one we had a few weeks ago? Or different areas got different amounts of rain each time?

So did I! I did hear a loud clap of thunder around 6:45. Since DD didn't wake up because of it I just rolled back over to sleep and didn't get up until 8:30.

I think it was a tornado. These storms sound vicious enough to be tornados. I am in Queens and the thunder woke me up but thank god it didn't wake my son up.
When I turned on the news this morning I saw these residents in Brooklyn being interviewed because a whole bunch of trees were down in their neighborhood.
