He's losing his breath while drinking his bottle, how do I help him?
My 4 month old DS is battling a cold and is stuffy. He's having trouble drinking his bottles (which he usually chugs) because he can't seem to breathe well. It looks like he pushes out the bottle to catch his breath.
What can I do to help him? After about 4 ounces he starts struggling (he drinks 7.5oz every 4 hours).
TIA!

I suction my DDs nose before a feeding and I also hold her upright. Seems to help when she's "stuffy".
Hope he feels better soon!

DD is doing the same exact thing right now, but she's also losing weight because she can't seem to drink out of her bottle. I guess between the stuffed up nose and the drinking she's taking in more air and spitting up more than usual. I'm suctioning her before her feedings and my ped put her on Zantac while she has her cold. I'm hoping it works! Also, we're spacing out her feedings...so she's taking in 2-3 ounces and feeding more frequently as opposed to drinking 6 ounces less frequently.
I hope your DS gets better soon!

My DS has feeding issues, and one of them is he loses his breath while eating, so we have to turn him on his side and have him eat that way. It helps my DS quite a bit.

Re: He's losing his breath while drinking his bottle, how do I help him?
DD is stuffy right now too and has been battling this cold. She's actually eating less too. I have been cluster feeding her 2 oz. every hour/ two hours. This morning she's doing a bit better so she was able to take 4 oz. She hasn't finished a since 6 oz. since last week. I have given her a few sips of water, as that is supposed to help thin out her mucus and I feel will help to keep her hydrated (she really loves the poland spring bottle lol). Again, just a few sips. She is also eating most comfy on a pillow, on my lap, propped up (not like usual craddled in my arms). Maybe that's more comforting? Not sure....

DS is doing the same thing. He is miserable. He gets so mad when he is drinking a bottle that he ends up crying. I try to sit him as upright as I can.

DS is doing the same, he's gulping in more air and burping more and spitting up. This morning he spit up a ton. Aggh, bad mommy - I didn't give him his zantac this am, he was screaming his head off and i didn't have a chance. I think I might try feeding him less more often too.
Hope everyone's DC feels better and thanks for the suggestions!

I would also put some saline drops in his nose before feeding him. The saline helps to break up the mucous.
Good Luck, I hope he feels better soon

This is what I would do. Put the saline in, hope for some sneezes, and get some of the mucus out.
Hope he's better soon!
