Help - please answer a quick question please regarding car seat safety education
I am a certified car seat technician. Part of my re-certification process is to provide at least four hours of community education. Examples include making presentations to parents, educators, kids, organizations (such as PTAs or law enforcement), or others who are not technicians.
As parents, would you attend an informational session like this? There would be no actual car seat check at that time, but could be arranged for the future. There would be a presentation as well as a Q & A session afterwards.
TIA for your answers!

I really need to get my car seats checked, but I probably would not sit through an entire presentation unless it was happening at the end! Could you organize a few of them (half hour each) for up to 5 parents and then do car seat checks right after? I would be there for that in a heartbeat!

I totally agree with this. I would not want to sit through a presentation and still need to make plans to have someone actually check my seat to see if it installed properly.

Call local preschools/daycares. Maybe they would be willing to let you do a presentation. It's really needed. I drop my dd off everyday at a preschool and I cannot tell you how many 2 & 3 years old are in backless boosters it's crazy!

this is absolutely ridiculous and it annoys me to no end!! I see the same thing and I want to be like do you really not know you kids should still be rear facing let alone in a any kind of seat belt booster!!!
To answer the OP no I son if i would sit through that but that's because I feel I know most already about when to turn them etc. what I need to know is how to install them would that be in there and really I know it depends on the seat.
I have questions like when to use the tether when not to. what happens if the car doesn't have a spot for the tether. I know you cant use LATCH after 40lbs though.
maybe if that information was in there i would but if it was 4 hours long i def wouldn't sit trough it

Help - please answer a quick question please regarding car seat safety education
What about creating some kind of in-service to pediatricians? Maybe a pamphlet or something they can hand out to patients. Especially information regarding the importance of rear facing. I think most people turn their kids way too soon. If we ask our pediatricians about food, sleep, etc why not car seat safety?

Help - please answer a quick question please regarding car seat safety education
Lol, omg, writing so late last night I realize now that I should have specified.....
It would definitely NOT be a 4 hour long presentation! I love talking about car seat safety, but not THAT much!!
The presentation would be about 30 minutes with q & a at the end (so maybe another 15/20 minutes)

That's definitely a good idea, thanks for the input!! I could offer it to those who want to stay, and set up other times if they don't.

It has to be an actual presentation. But I have have plans wit 2 local pediatric groups to do a q & a with the Dr's because, although they are amazing when it comes to stick kids, they are typically not trained it up to date in car seat safety.

Yes! It's crazy! I will never understand why parents do things like that! !
I already plans on going to a few small local ones near me. Thank you!

ITA too!
I've already read a lot about car seat safety so I wouldn't sit through a presentation unless it gave me the opportunity to have my seat checked at the end.

Unfortunately hospitals don't want the liability risk so they don't allow it. Crazy fact: all NS/LIJ associated hospitals have at least 1 staff member who is a certified car seat tech! May have more (lij for example has a bunch) but because the hospital doesn't want to be responsible for any reason if ever a patent decides to sue, they don't offer assistance to patents regarding car seat safety at all.
