car seat safety question

We just leased a new car last night and FH wants to get one of those seat protectors under for under DD's car seat so that the leather doesn't get messed up. I remember reading somewhere or hearing somewhere that those "protectors" weren't safe because it makes the car seat slide around. Has anybody else heard this, or know if that's true/false?

TIA!!!

Re: car seat safety question

I've heard that as well, but my personal thoughts are, if your seat is negatively affected by a seat protector, the seat isn't properly installed. I've had one of those on for years, and my seats are more secure than what the experts say is allowable. All the experts say that if a seat moves less than 1 inch, it's OK. Not in my book, and not in my car. My seats don't move even close to an inch, so I don't see the rationale behind the "no seat protector" rule.

Re: car seat safety question

The Suffolk County Police Officer that inspected my car seats (and reinstalled themChat Icon ) said they compromise the safety of the seats.

She also said ANYTHING in the cabin of the vehicle can become a projectile in a crash... no roller shades, no tissue boxes, no toys on the carseat, no mirrors for the baby.

I know you can't take everything out of the cabin of the car but she said you should not have the above and minimize and secure what you do have.
