Convertible car seat safety question- winter
I remember that in the infant seats, it was not safe to put them in a snowsuit or coat, so we used a bundle-me.
What do we do now? Is it safe to put them in the convertible car seat with the puffy jacket or dress coat?
We have the Britax Boulevard. tia!

You should still dress them in thin layers when in a car seat--same rules apply.

I start the car before we go out. I put on a puffy jacket and bring him to the car and then take it off when I put him in the carseat. He's also in a Britax.

I have the same seat. I take DD's coat off when I put her in and then on when I take her out. I keep a blanket in the car for her. Family thinks I'm crazy and gives me weird looks, but whatever. I can explain myself til I'm blue in the face and they still don't get it.

I get the same looks, lol! Too bad- better safe than sorry. It's not easy to do it with two, but hey, I guess I'll just have to leave the house less, and when I do, get going sooner. Thanks everyone!!!!

DS is 3 and we also have the boulevard. I take his coat off to put him in. Better safe than sorry. If its really cold, you can take their coat off, strap them in, and then put their coat on backwards, so their arms and body are covered by the coat..

Saw this pic on facebook the other day. Really shows why you need to skip the heavy coat. DD is usually in a warm hoodie and mittens. I've tried to put a blanket over her but she throws it right off.

How about unzipping their coat and strapping them in? That doesn't work either, right? I should just take their coat off completely?

Yes b/c the straps could still not be tight enough over the shoulders.

I keep a thin fleece zipped on ds in the carseat. Then just throw his regular coat over it when we get out of the car.

If you put your LO in their seat with out the coat and tighten the straps, take them out (without loosening the straps) put the coat on, leave it unzipped, and can rebuckle without having to readjust then it is okay.
(This is information I read on the facebook page for Car Seats for the Littles)

I use a very thin coat, the very puffy ones are not good for this
