DH and I have both had food poisoning, but neither of us got sick that quickly. It was about 4-5 hours before any nausea set it and another hour or so after before the "fun" stuff started.

I ate at a Friendly's and halfway home had to get out of my car along the Expressway to throw up. I was sooooo sick.

Yup, both DH and I were violently ill from eating at the Elbow Room out east...this was many, many years ago. Worst I have ever felt in my life.

Yes McDonald's right before an outdoor concert. Spent the whole concert violently throwing up.
Ruby Tuesdays. There was 6 of us who got violently sick. Board of Health determined it was from contaminated ice.

I don't think you can get sick right away. Food Bourne illnesses can start to affect you 3 hours to 3 days after eating. I learned that when I got certified for my food handler license at the department of health in Nassau county.
That was about 20 years ago, so maybe things have changed?

Yup 3 days to my wedding & my BFF & I went to Panera after dropping stuff at the hall. We ate different things & within 3 hrs I got violently ill while driving. Continued throwing up for about 5 hrs, was so weak afterwards & could not look at food for days. Didn't even eat at my wedding & my dress was huge bc of not eating. I have never eaten at Panera again.

I have an iron stomach, so it's very rare that anything I eat gives me more than a gassy feeling. My DH has gotten sick after eating out many times. Over the summer my niece and my DH both got sick after eating at the northside lobster roll. We try to eat gluten free now so I think that has made my DH even more sensitive.
I had something weird happen to me last week, like an allergic reaction after eating at a restaurant. I woke up in the middle of the night so itchy I could not go back to sleep. I didn't have an obvious rash but I couldn't stop scratching my legs and my back. It finally went away several hours later.

I've read that ice is the dirtiest thing in a restaurant. For that reason, I just don't get any!!

Wow, what is with COLDSTONE??? My grandma and her friend went there years ago when they first opened up and both got sick. I think one of them even went back a second time and it happened again, although I'm not positive. Either way, that's scary! I will never go there.
I think it's more of an issue with them not being able to digest their brand of ice cream, not that they have contaminated ice cream. My son loves that place, eats it and tolerates it fine. I can get the same thing, and it makes me have a stomach ache after.

This is what I think. A few posters on here said it happened to them a few times at the same place, when that would be highly unlikely since many others would get sick too if it was true food poisoning. If it's a place dirty enough to infect someone various times, it wouldnt be only them and therefore the place would definitely get investigated.

I've also read that in some instances, a food worker still contagious and shedding a stomach virus (such as norovirus) can accidentaly contaminate food if hands aren't washed properly. This can result in multiple people getting sick from the same food, similar to food poisoning. So gross.

yes, I think if it's happening to you every time you eat at a certain place, it may be a food sensitivity, more than food poisoning. Like the Coldstone example, it could be that their ice cream is extra rich or something and certain people can't handle it. Or the Ruth Chris one were a poster said they fry their steaks in butter. I know for a fact that when I had a gallbladder extra rich or greasy food would make me very sick. It wasn't food poisoning, it was my body reacting to the way the food was prepared.

A co-worker's son got E. coli after eating at Chipotle. The health department had to be called and he was sick for awhile.
DH always gets sick after eating at Red Lobster (the two or three times he's eaten there), so I agree it may be that particular restaurant's ingredients or preparation that can make people sick.

When I say I got sick from Coldstone, I mean I was violently ill - throwing up for hours, felt feverish, short of breath from throwing up so much - wasn't just an upset stomach. I had eaten there many times previously and never gotten sick. It started about four to five hours after I ate it.

Staphylococcus aureus I think has the shortest span you can get sick in 1-6 hours most others it is 12 hours or like 1-3 days later.
Food poisoning is the worst. I had severe food poisoning while studying in Italy once. I was so sick for several days and needed antibiotics.
I also got food poisoning years ago from hildebrant's.
