Re: Halo Sleepsack Users: WARNING
Wow, that is so scary. I have a halo sleepsac which I havent used yet bc DS wont sleep in his crib. I would have never even thought something like could happen.
I received a similar type of sack as a gift. Its made by swaddle designs. There are zippers at the top and bottom but each end has a buttoned flap that goes over the zipper. I would hope this one would be safer.
This is a link for the swaddle designs sack. http://www.eswaddle.com/product/SD-082PB

The hole on the zipper is so small - it would take a lot for a baby to get tooth stuck in there. I am sure if this was a common problem Halo would recall the sleepsacks and change the design. How horrible for the child it happened to and how scary to think it could happen, but I think the chances are pretty low. There is a chance of something happening with anything, unfortunately.
I agree with this as well.
I feel horribly for the mom and child that this happened to, but it seems to me like a freak accident, and not something that would be a likely occurrence.
There is already so much that we as moms have to worry about. I try my best not to let every little thing freak me out.

Poor kid -
I never used those sleep sack things - they made me nervous. I don't like the fact that they are competely confined and can't move their own legs/feet if they want/need to
I know it's a 'no no' but I gave Sean a blanket very early in place of those things -
They are not completly confined in a sleep sack and can most definately move their legs and feet.
As I write this, I'm watching my DD on the video monitor (who is SUPPOSED to be napping), walking and crawling all over her crib in her sleep sack.
While it's AWFUL this happened to this baby, it sounds like just a freak thing that happened, which like SweetTooth said, can really happen with just about anything.
I will continue to use the sleep sack as *I* feel it's safer for my DD to use then a regular blanket. But that's my opinion.
Jack runs, and fast, in his sleepsack.

What about putting the sleep sack backwards???
That's a great idea! Very little chance of accessing the zipper that way, I'd think...

The Little Me and Carter's brand sleep sac both zip from bottom to top instead of top to bottom. I have them in size 0-9 months.

DS is only 4 months and has already outgrown his carters 0-9mos sleepsacks. Thats why we switched to the halos. But now reading this I'm scared of them. Blankets terrify me even more...so which is the lesser of 2 evils???

Nah, my babies sleep on their stomachs, so they sleep right on the zipper as it is. But after putting them on for their naps, I realized the neck might be to high if it was backwards, as Goobster mentioned. Also, I looked at the hole on the zipper and actually put it up to DC teeth. First i don't think their teeth could really fit in the hole, and even if they could, it would take a lot of contorting to make it happen. What happened to this baby was a freak accident.

I do agree with this. It does sound scary, but with a young child, I sitll think they are safer than a blanket. DS still wears them, but he can't stand blankets.

Re: Halo Sleepsack Users: WARNING
Can you please put me in touch with the person whose daughter lost their tooth to a Halo Sleepsack? I know of another child who recently had the exact same thing happen to him. This sounds like a remote possibility, but it is obviously a problem. The Company told them that they had not heard of any other problems, such as their son's tooth extraction. This was obviously not the truth. People need to be aware of the dangers here...

Re: Halo Sleepsack Users: WARNING
my halo sleep sac doesn't have a hole in the zipper at all. i have 3 of the same one and none of them have a hole in the zipper.. it's a solid zipper (I have the one with hearts on it)
i have a summer brand sleep sac as well and that one has 2 zippers... one on the top and the other on the bottom. it also has a little flap that covers the zipper.

I think the board it was posted on originally was Charlotte Mommies-so I would head over there, make an account and ask about it, or FM MrsRivera on this board

Maybe that's new. All my halos from 3 years ago had holes in the zipper pull.

My DD is 12 weeks on wed.. so they are all purchased within the last few months.
I checked right after I read this. They are all just a white zipper.. solid, no holes.

Interesting, they must have changed them. Hmmm, wonder why? I know when Beth posted this thread back then I was paranoid about my DD using them but since she never really put her feet to her mouth or unzipped it I still used it. But I do recall checking and mine did have holes in the zippers, like most zippers do.
Hopefully the person looking for the info can find out who to contact.

Re: Halo Sleepsack Users: WARNING
I kinda think its like the odds of being hit in the head by a falling coconut. Really, I would think the chances are pretty slim. But when I close the sleepsac I used to tuck in the zipper puller into the inside and close it. My DD used to open it and take it off, so once it was all tucked in she couldnt.

Re: Halo Sleepsack Users: WARNING
I see this is an old topic but it's new to me, how sad and scary! I just looked at mine and there is no hole at the end of the zipper but there is a decent size space at the base where the tab connects to the zipper that I could picture a tooth getting caught in! I'm thinking about having DH remove the tabs, trying to decide if THAT could cause more problems. It would be more annoying to zip and unzip but at least it should resolve the tooth getting stuck . . . unless it just makes another hole or that lol. I wish I would have seen this before I bought two of these (and washed them) yesterday. Ugh, the joys of parenting!

Re: Halo Sleepsack Users: WARNING
clearly I'm bored while pumping! sorry about the nail polish.. it's time for a mani!
the 2nd pic is what I think the PP was talking about. it's awfully tiny.. and not easy to get to so IDK if that's a very likely thing to occur.
also, i cannot tuck the zipper under or inside like the other poster said. it just won't work with this sleep sac... it wouldn't ever stay... not possible.

Yes, that is exactly what we have. I can picture a tooth potentially getting stuck in there. DD loves to put anything and everything she can get her hands on in her mouth. She also loves chewing on her feet, so this is getting me nervous. Now on top of worrying if I have her dressed too warm for bed, I have to worry that she's going to yank her tooth out.

Re: Halo Sleepsack Users: WARNING
i guess if she's biting it then it would be easier.
i tried to bite it myself..though i know it's not the same... and it was impossible for me. but i do recognize a kids tooth is smaller as is their face, etc.

Re: Halo Sleepsack Users: WARNING
My DD was definitely lifting her feet up and gnawing on the zipper as well. i wasnt even thinking about her tooth getting stuck but rather her chipping off and eating the paint! There was no way to tuck the zipper in so i switched to these baby in a bag sleepsacks and was much happier.

Yes, it is the zipper with the open eyelet that was the culprit, not the flat zipper.
