grocery bill
I'm spending about $100 a week on groceries and there's just two of us. That's insane! Is this the norm or am I doing something wrong?

That's what we spend, but we eat breakfast at home and bring lunch to work.

Re: grocery bill
do you shop the sales or just buy whatever you need regardless of whether or not it's on sale?
Do you buy name brand or store brand.
I shop the sales religiously (I'm even becoming my mother and going to various stores depending on the sales and prices ). If a sale is really good, I stock up (bread at Stop and Shop was $1 last week... I bought about 4 loaves and put them in the freezer). I also will buy store brand if it's on sale.

Re: grocery bill
That seems very expensive. I am only shopping for two and for a weeks worth of food I spend $30 - $50. Once in a while my bill is $80-$100 but that is only when I am stocking up on sale items and come home with 10 boxes of cereal, 20 cans of veggies, etc. I usually only buy things on sale at Pathmark or Waldbaums.

Re: grocery bill
I spend an average of about $100 a week. I usually go shopping every 2 weeks though.
That includes cases of water, iced tea, meat, fish..etc.
I take breakfast and lunch from home most days.
That could also include tin foil, zip lock bags and maybe detergent if there is a sale.
I'm very good about shopping the sales but I buy a lot of fresh produce so I go to different stores for it.

Re: grocery bill
we normally spend 120 - 150 per week.. for two of us.... we both take lunches to work and cook home most nights....
we never hunt for sales and buy name brands of most things.... but if a name brand product we like is on sale, we stock up. ive been known to clear shelves in the grocery store...

Re: grocery bill
I typically spend between $30-$70 per week--usually higher one week, lower the next. DH and I both eat breakfast at home every day, take lunch virtually every day, and cook dinner at home every weeknight and most weekend nights as well. I do shop the sales religiously, never buy meat if it's not on sale (and not just sale, but a good sale), and freeze the extras. Buy larger packages when they are a better deal of many things and store the extra, and stock up when things go on sale. It really does make a huge difference to just do these small things!

Re: grocery bill
Our grocery bill varies from week to week. Sometimes there are really good meat sales and I'll spend over $100. Sometimes I just need a few things we've run out of and spend $40 a week.
I think things really have gone up a lot in the past couple of years though. Sometimes I think what the heck did I even buy that I spent this much?

Re: grocery bill
Check the circulars and coupons, coupons, coupons.
My $100.00 grocery bill went down to $60.00 last week after in store specials and coupons.
I clip coupons from the newspaper, download them from coupons.com, smartsouce.com and redplum.com and sometimes if I know a specific item I want to buy or regularly buy (milk, frozen veg, etc...) I'll go to the mfg website and see if they have coupons on the site.

Re: grocery bill
I think we probably spend around that too when you factor in our costco trips.
I honestly don't use a lot of coupons either because the main bulk of my purchases are for meats, chicken, etc. and for produce... none of which really have coupons!

I have been spending almost twice that for the two of us for food over the past year. I guess it depends on your tastes and how budget conscious you are. I shop at places like Fresh Market, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe's, in addition to Kroger. And all I do is cook.
I'm trying to cut back a little, but it's really hard. DH would rather eat well than for me to save money.

Re: grocery bill
I'm around that for 2 each week as well, sometimes higher. We eat breakfast at home and bring lunch. I cook dinner almost every night. I'm also a religious coupon cutter and sale shopper. I have also turned into my mother. LOL
If I think about it though, cold cuts and bread alone cost me almost $20 per week. I also use a lot of fresh produce in my recipes.

Re: grocery bill
I hardley even pay attention to sales ect but I have figured out what is cheapest at what store. This is for two ppl - but we also entertain a LOT - and I am obsessed with cooking/baking.
We usually spend about $200 at costco a month - but I also get cleaning supplies there, swiffer clothes and clorox wipes, and our paper goods and water, dog treats,cereal,meat/fish,frozen pasta, razor blades.
$75 a month at target - ziplock containers/bags, bleach and laundry detergent, beauty supplies shampoo ect, and dry food stuff - cake mix, spices ect.
$150 a month Stop and Shop - Dairy,chicken/turkey products,fruit and vegtables,rice - dry pasta,sauce,dressing.cooking oils.
During the summer I try to buy my fruits and veg from the farm stand or farmers market - I like to support the local economy/farmers. it is worth the extra $$ to me.
