Re: Graco Snugride vs SafeSeat

We chose the safeseat - it was just a little lighter and rated just as good.

Re: Graco Snugride vs SafeSeat

We have the snugride. It is lighter than the safeseat. The difference is the safeseat can go until your baby is bigger, the snugride is only good until the baby is 20lbs. But for me, with two, I wanted the lightest possible carrier.

Re: Graco Snugride vs SafeSeat

i have the safeseat and it is definately heavy. my friend used the Snugride and it seemed like it was a little lighter and smaller. i'm using the safeseat again b/c i really dont want to have to buy another one but personally it would not be my first choice if i had to pick again

HTH!

eta - its definately good - just heavier than i would like.

Re: Graco Snugride vs SafeSeat

I have the Snugride and so far it's great. It's lighter than the Safeseat and I think it got slightly better reviews. One of the main reasons I chose the Snugride over the Safeseat was b/c it was lighter and easier for me to carry.

We chose Safe Seat because it holds up to a higher weight. Both seats get A ratings in Baby Bargains.

We are going with the Snugride with EPS again. It is better rated than the Safeseat - although not a lot better. The car installer in Mineola - that a lot of the moms use told me it is still his top pick and to not go with the others.

BTW for those who were only considering the safeseat b.c of the higher weight limits - I saw 2 snugrides (called I think the Snugride 32) at BBB that now go up to 32 inches and 32 lbs. I haven't decided if we will go with that one or the regular snugride. DD #1 was 9lbs 4 ozs at birth and 20 inches. The seat is heavy enough so I can't see carrying her around at 32 lbs or 32 inches. DD was in the snugride until 11 months when she was borderline for the length not the weight. At 15 months DD only weighed 21 lbs 13 ozs and was 30.5 inches.

I have the Safeseat from DS. I chose it because it of the higher weight limit and it's supposed to be easier to install (at least it was in 2006 -- maybe there have been changes to the Snugride base, don't know).

My son was in the 75% for height and weight and we used it until he was about 10 months -- could have still used it, but Britax was having its sale, so we bought the convertible.

It is heavier than the Snugride, but if you have a big baby you might find him/her growing out the Snugride sooner than you like (my friend's daughter was out of her Snugride before 6 months -- she's a big girl). It probably wouldn't make that much of a difference with a small/average baby since you get tired of lugging that thing around by the time they're 9 months or so and you're generally leaving it in the car by that time.

Re: Graco Snugride vs SafeSeat

I chose the Safe seat for a not so great reason. I liked the way it looked as opposed to the other infant car seats in BRU. I know that all of the Graco seats are high rated, so I knew it was not a bad choice. The heaviness issue is there, but I will make do. Maybe lifting it in and out of the car will help with my post-baby workout! Chat Icon

an FYI -

according to Graco's website:

Snugride weighs in (without the base) at 7.5 pounds.

Safeseat weighs in (without the base) at 9.8 pounds.

Just a note, although it holds more, when your DC gets to be 20lbs the last thing you feel like doing is carrying that around. DS was out of the seat at 7 months and really I couldnt have carried him in it for much longer

I think I am going to go with the snugride....I can't imagine carrying around a 30lb child in that seat!

Re: Graco Snugride vs SafeSeat

I got the snugride because of the safety reviews. I really like it, but if i could go back in time, I would get the safeseat. It lasts much longer and is a better fit for my car (something you should check out before buying the seat, unlike me...)

Re: Graco Snugride vs SafeSeat

I love the Safe Seat. It stays clean, its light enough and it fits beautifully in the Snap and Go. At BBB this weekend, there was a couple returning the SnugRide because their daughter 3 months old was 17 and a half pounds and already too big for it.

Re: Graco Snugride vs SafeSeat

We went with the Safe Seat. Baby Bargain book gives both the Snugride and SafeSeat good reviews. The Snugride gets a better review, but not by much. I'm a little concerned about the weight, but it seems all the car seats on the market are just as heavy.
It was a tuff choice between the two. Especially since I'm Petite and the snugride would be better on my back.

Reason I went with the SafeSeat:
1. Can hold a baby up to 30lbs.
2. Easy to install
3. Has extra side impact protection, which the snugride lacks.
I originally wanted the Peg Perego car seat to go with my stroller. This car seat is even heavier then the SafeSeat and of course it is really pricey.

Snugride. The baby will be in a regular stroller and convertible car seat after that I don't want to be carrying around 30 lbs of baby and 10+ lbs carseat.

Re: Graco Snugride vs SafeSeat

Just an FYI the new Graco Snugrides (Snugride 32) weighs 9.5 lbs without the base. We went for the older one because it was lighter.

We also decided we weren't going to carry the infant seat with a 30 lb baby in it.

The snugride 32 does have the extra side impact - the old snugrides do not.

Re: Graco Snugride vs SafeSeat

i've had both. snugride for my frist almost 6 years ago. was a good seat, but if your kid runs bit be prepared to switch over very early. my son was out of it at 6 months. and i missed it ALOT! so much easier to carry the entire car seat into the house when they are sleeping.

got the safeseat for my DD who is 14 months now. she's over 22lbs, and yes its heavy, but she doesn't transfer if she's sleeping, so i can pick the entire thing up and take her in the house to nap in the seat. much easier.

so i got 6 months use on the snugride and 14 months and going on the safe seat.... the extra weight is worth the longer time i have to just carry her in the car seat into the house to sleep.

as for going anyplace when she is awake, i take her out of the car seat and put her in the stroller. so i don't use the seat as much as when she was little.
