gotta love stupid people with stupid comments -immunization related
DD had a 4y well visit yesterday, she got all her vaccines -MMR, Varicella and flue.
I was just talking to one of the moms from her prek , told her about the visit and that we got the vaccines and she freaked out : OMG we never get them all together like this.... you know vaccines are linked to autism you should really keep an eye on her now..... I really hope she doesn't have a bad reaction to them....I would never agree with the ped if they wanted to do all the vaccines at once....
she just went on and on and on. I just let her talk , then I just let out this nervous laugh and told her DD always gets all her vaccines on time and she is fine so far, politely said bye and hung up.
You know I just don't get some people, I understand you have your opinions on certain things, such as vaccinating your kids, but don't try to make me feel guilty or judge me for the choices I make . Goodness, whatever happened to mind your own business...
and this is one of the moms who I was "friendly" with

I don't think she's a "stupid" person. Isn't it just as ignorant for you to say that someone is stupid because they have a differing opinion than yours as it is for her to berate you and not respect YOUR opinion?
FWIW, neither of my children have gotten more than 2 immunizations at one visit. I would prefer to go more often to limit exposure. If there is a reaction, I'd like to limit the suspects. And all their vaccinations are up to date and never behind. I just go more often than you do. But I never thought vaccines were responsible for autism, I just didn't like the idea of injecting little bodies with a lot of different types of toxins etc in one day. My kids, my choice. You do what you want with yours, but MY choice certainly doesn't make me "stupid" any more than your choices make YOU stupid.
The CDC guidelines were done for convenience first and foremost. They found most parents don't want to (or simply can't) go to the Dr monthly to get more frequent vaccines. Especially in rural or poorer communities where parents are unable to go to the Dr more frequently. The way the guidelines are done ensures that more kids get their vaccinations.

thank you and exactly! It's one thing to say oh you know we don't do vaccines all at once, or I'm too scared to give all the vaccines together or something like that, I wouldn't mind that at all, bc again I understand , everyone is different.... But to go on and on and on about it is stupid. JMO.
BTW I'm not trying to start drama here, I was just venting bc I was surprised, angry and a bit upset by the comments, that's all.
It's not my intention or my thing to start drama on LIF or IRL.

The word "immunization" almost always leads to drama on here...no matter what your stance. I can see this thread going downhill fast.

I agree that she shouldn't have bothered pressing her views on you like that- or at least she should have said like one thing and then just let it go.
If she was a good friend I wouldn't be offended though b/c I'd know she was just trying to look out for me- maybe for next time you get multiple vaccs.
As an aside- our ped is very pro-vaccine but also doesn't give more than two at a time.

Her comments would bother me too.
I hear things like this a LOT from family members who know nothing about medicine (but are well-intentioned at heart).
I just tell them, in response, that I don't think I'M as knowledgeable on the subject as the panels of doctors and specialists who make up the AAP.

Oh, I see - its an age range and 4 is the youngest in the range. I was only asking b/c both my peds office and the school district have it as a 5 yr old (for Kind.) shot. This is the first I've heard of someone giving it as early as 4. Thanks for the info!

Let's now all argue over the word stupid. AND then proceed to tell her how YOU wouldn't give that many shots at once! Which is what she's already venting about. She followed her doctors orders, made her decision and then a friend had to go on and on and on and on AFTER the fact her DD already had them. . . it would make any of us mad.
OP vent away, I get what you are saying!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with this. She was probably trying to help. And, I would hardly call her opinion stupid. Giving three live virus shots at one time is a lot and most would probably think too much given the serious potential reactions that each of these shots pose. Since you did not ask for her advice though I can understand you not wanting to hear it but, honestly, if you are content with your decision why do you care? She is entitled to her opinion (one which MANY parents AND Dr.'s share) just as much as you are. Just like I am not going to sit here and call you "stupid" for giving your child three live virus shots - I don't think she is stupid or her comment is stupid for feeling that is too much. I think this is true regardless of whether you are pro-vaccine or not. I am a very educated intelligent person and I fully vaccinate my children. However, I would never give them three live virus vaccines at any age - let alone 12 mos old. So, this is my opinion and I assure you - I am NOT a stupid person.

Telling someone who has already vaccinated their child the danger of the already administered vaccines IS stupid. Her friend was a stupid woman for making such inconsiderate comments.
Why does everyone have to internalize?! The OP didn't say the opinion was stupid.
To the OP: your friend is an idiot. Sorry she made you feel upset.

did anyone else thoroughly read the OP? NOWHERE did she say the woman was stupid for not following the CDC schedule and her opinion on vaccinations. She said her comments in regard to her vaccinating her daughter and making her feel guilty were stupid comments.
I for one happen to agree with her - it is stupid commentary to have a differing opinion and then berate and talk down to someone and guilt them about what they have done for their child based on that opinion.

And BTW- the literature from BOTH sides of this debate don't even link the aforementioned vaccines to autism. It's the D-Tap that people have issue with. So I have changed my stance: this woman's statements WERE stupid.

yeah i don't think she meant she was stupid because of her opinion...she was stupid for saying all those things to worry her and make her think now her daughter will be autistic bc of vaccines. THAT was stupid. if she really felt that way maybe she should have kept it to herself. I wouldn't say to someone "gosh your house is not as clean as mine your daughter is going to get ringworms" or "you're feeding your child crap, your child is going to get diseases!" to me it's the same thing...you just don't say certain things. she could have easily said "oh i feel really uncomfortable with having vaccines given all in one shot. that doesn't worry you?" without scaring the mom

I dont get WHY this is even an issue...The poster was venting about somebody she felt passed some STUPID comments....Why is this an issue and WHY should she be called ignorant bc she called somebody stupid????
I dont even come on here that often any more bc of all the drama and bs....but come on now people should be able to vent and say things!!!!!
There are ALOT of STUPID people out there that pass STUPID comments and I hear them all the time!!!!!!!
