No one should vote without ID. There is no winning or losing in this argument as it protects everyone’s vote, no matter if you are voting for your school taxes or the president of the United States.

Not even close.

https://www.aclu.org/other/oppose-voter-id-legislation-fact-sheet

It *might* have prevented 31 causes of in-person voter impersonation out of over 1 billion votes cast. But in doing that, it would block millions of people from voting. That is the opposite of protecting everyone's right to vote.

Once again why would you only have an ID to vote? You need one for everyday life.

https://www.npr.org/2012/02/01/146204308/why-millions-of-americans-have-no-government-id

...
And it turns out that more than three million Americans actually don't own a government-issued picture ID. That's according to a recent study by New York University's Brennan Center for Justice.
...

So, no, you don't need one for everyday life. Sure it makes things easier, but you don't have to have one. Over 3 million Americans don't.

This is from 9 years ago. I wonder what the number is now as I don’t see much updated to now.

For someone so amazing at searching, you don't do a very thorough job. It took all of 1 minute to find a 3 year old page that lists quite a few source of numbers from different years, different methodologies, and different groups, showing a measurable percentage of Americans don't have an ID that would allow them to vote, or do "everyday life" things.

https://checkyourfact.com/2018/12/02/fact-check-millions-government-photo-id/

So nothing recent? I found all articles from past years. 3 years old and 9 years old is not recent IMO.

So your assumption is that the 3 million or more people who didn't get an ID for 80 years ALL got an ID in the last 3 years? That's your takeaway?

Then prove me wrong. Find an article from today that shows how many people don't have ID. Until you can prove your point, my point is valid. Millions of people got by for decades without an ID. 3 years is not 100 years ago. How can a person survive without an ID 3 years ago, but can't possibly survive today?

I did say there are none from this year it even last with this information. If you can find something, that is great as I would love to see something that is not going on 10 years old.

Why would it matter? You know that you lost the argument, so you're trying to distract. You agreed that there were numbers from 3 years ago. That's not going on 10 years. If someone can get by 3 years ago without ID, then can get by now.
If I found something from today, you would find some other reason to say it wasn't valid.

Since you don't like looking up facts, and just posting what you feel, I feel like if there were 3 million without ID years ago, there must be at least 10 million now.

Prove me wrong. 10 million people without ID should be allowed to vote. Maybe 20 million. You can't say that number isn't true either.

See how arguments with no facts works?

Who is issuing these IDs?
Are they universal in the 50 states and territories?
What about absentee ballots? How do I provide ID for that?
And, if the use of ID was required to protect my vote - what does that mean for every election I have voted in up til now? I vote in NYS.

We have spoken about the government issuing ID’s but since it is state to state it most likely have to come from them. Again I haven’t researched the entire platform for this so don’t know details.

Absentee ballot could easily have ID information on it as well.

It means you most likely were not protected in NYS since a few people have indicated you can just walk into the polls and vote under anyone’s name in NY.

I can walk into a bank and hand the teller a note demanding all the cash and not to push the panic button. The teller will do exactly as the note says. I will walk out with the money. It would appear that I have successfully robbed a bank but I will be caught. So even if I did commit voter fraud; it doesn't mean I will get away with it.

Have you ever volunteered your time to work the polls to see what working there entails and what is done to verify a voter and then all that is done to insure the votes are tabulated and secure. It’s insane the amount of steps there are. You think it’s all just “hey I’m John Smith let me vote”. Work the polls if you really are concerned. Once you do I doubt you would have all these conspiracy theories that you love to spew so much!

No one should vote without ID. There is no winning or losing in this argument as it protects everyone’s vote, no matter if you are voting for your school taxes or the president of the United States.

Just because the appearance is that I can walk in to the polls and just vote under anyone's name does not mean that it can be successful executed. Appearance is not fact.

Why not? If you are the same sex as the person you are voting for, why do you not think it could be successful?

I can walk into a bank and hand the teller a note demanding all the cash and not to push the panic button. The teller will do exactly as the note says. I will walk out with the money. It would appear that I have successfully robbed a bank but I will be caught. So even if I did commit voter fraud; it doesn't mean I will get away with it.

How would someone get caught when they don’t ask to see ID and all you have to do is sign by your name?

I agree with everything that you said above. You are 100% correct.

The problem is, VB/windy constantly speaks from a place of complete misinformation and ignorance which is why EVERY topic gets beaten to death and is 45 pages long. GoldenRod has provided facts which she ignores and multiple people have explained their positions as well as explain to her how things work but ultimately we'd all be better off beating our heads up against a wall.

Fact is she doesn't really even care about this issue, she just likes to hijack threads and rile people up. This will no doubt go on ALL day long and in the end she will contradict herself 47 times, reverse position, deflect any questions and use her anecdotal stories of someone she knows to try and prove her point. She is wasting everyone's time.

I have never volunteered, but I HAVE voted. And all I do is walk up, say my name, I sign next to it and I vote. Pretty easy. Nothing was ever done to verify that it's actually me. EVER.

I would if I didn’t have to work a full time job.
I have witnessed how easy it is to do this multiple times voting. They asked my name, turned the page to it and I signed. That.is.all.

I think that has been said a few times but it is not resonating as it seems posters like to waste time and if they didn’t go back and forth many threads would just die in due time.

Re: Georgia voting law

Well, I didn’t carry around an acceptable form of ID for about 9 years. I got along just fine.

And if we go by “acceptable” here, I still don’t carry one around, so make that 16 years.
