FRUSTRATED!

DH went to our PCP to go over his SA results. Everything was normal and he's bringing back a print-out of the results.

He asked about getting a referral to an RE and just like our ob/gyn, she said that we need to wait until we've been trying for a year.

This is so frustrating!

I do not know how many more months of hopefulness and heartbreak I can take. We try to do everything right, and still AF makes her arrival month after month.

I just wanted to see an RE. Have my CD 3 bloodwork and CD 21 bloodwork done. Maybe an HSG if necessary. I just want to have a baby!

Re: FRUSTRATED!

Yes, our insurance requires that we have a referral unfortunately! Chat Icon

I thought that maybe the PCP would give us one as a way of bypassing our ob/gyn, but that didn't work either!

I'm just thinking that another OB would say the same thing. What would I make the appointment for? I just had my annual exam....

I guess I don't really know how this works!

ITA - How do they know how long you've been trying unless you tell them? So just say it's been over a year.

GL! Don't give up hope. It WILL happen.

Re: FRUSTRATED!

2 options:

1. Do as PPs said- call a new dr and say its been about 12 mons of trying

Or

2. Call your reg dr and explain to him/her that as the patient yuo would feel more comfortabel talking to a specialist about this situation. I think you have some friggin right to ask that.

This is BULLSH*T

i agree with option one, but it's not her doctor's fault that he/she won't give her the referral - it's the insruance companies that dictate how long you have to have been trying.

her doctor could lie, sure, but that's insurance fraud, and it would be pretty easy (if they ever suspected something) for the ins. co to pull her chart to see the doc's notes.

i would DEFINITELY make an appt with a new OB.. more like a consult.. like everyone is saying... just say you have been trying for a year now and would like to see an RE..

im telling you , i almost had to do the same thing.. i was gonna find a new doc as well if they were not being serious with me.. and making things more difficult because they dont care.

DONT sit back.. please, you are in charge here!! this happens all the time with some doctors.. they dont take things as serious as they should!!

Re: FRUSTRATED!

I would go to your Ob/Gyn and ask them for a refeeral to the RE, wait 1 year, that's crazy! For DH and I it has been 8 months, but since I have a 24 day cycle, feels like even longer!

Good Luck!

Re: FRUSTRATED!

Do you have regular cycles? Did the dr. actually give your DH the numbers on the SA or just tell him everything was normal?
If you can't get the referral to an RE, why can't your ob/gyn do CD3 tests and refer you for an HSG?

I think my cycles are pretty regular. I can give you the full info if that would help.

My DH has the numbers at home. I'm at work now, but the dr. went over it with him and said they were normal. I can give you the #s later.

Are CD 3 testing and HSG referrals something that I could request? My ob/gyn seemed to not want to take any further steps until the one-year mark. She said it's normal for couples our age to take up to 12 months to get pregnant.

This happened to me. My ob/gyn would not give me a referral, so I asked my PCP to give me one. If you want I can give you his name and you can go there and he will give you a referral.

Thank you for the suggestion! Because of our insurance plan, we can only get referrals through our PCP that we initially chose. To go to another, we'd need to switch PCPs. I'll FM you to give you details.
