I think it's ok to remain friend with these people if you genuinely like their company. You will be the ones to teach your children values and if your freinds don't do the same with their children, then that's a shame. I do understand where you're coming from though. I have a similar situation myself. I actually teach dance in the town I grew up in and the preschool teachers there are assuming I will send DS to school there, but I have no intentions of it. I don't want him to become jaded by some of the other children and their parents. He will not attend that public school, so I would rather him be in school with children he will grow up with- in our less than posh, middle class neighborhood.

I know what you mean.... Luckily we don't have friends like that but my family can be that way. My dad is also very wealthy. People see his big house in Lloyd harbor and must think I have it made. But I don't get a dime, nor do I think I'm entitled to it. My stepsister gets a lot from my dad because her mom makes sure of that. I work my asss off because I know what comes with getting money from a controlling father. And know what? Cailen as a result will learn a lot more than just holding his hands out for more. And If I heard kids arguing whose mommy loved them more based on material crap I would slowly drift away from those get togethers....
