For those who had swollen ankles/feet:

When did they start swelling? I have noticed my socks leaving deeper indents over the past few weeks, so I knew there was some swelling going on, but tonight, my ankles look really swollen. I'm 26 weeks today. I was at my doctor's office on Monday, and my BP was normal, and they did a urinalysis, so I'm not too worried about preeclampsia. I'm sure it's regular pregnancy swelling, but I feel like it's early for it!

Also, I don't know what kind of shoes to wear for the spring. I have lived in Uggs all winter, and they are nice and roomy. Once it gets warm enough, I will wear my Fit Flops, which are also wide. I just don't know what to wear in the middle! My sketcher sneakers were tight this afternoon when I got home from work. I wore flats all say, and they were cutting in terribly. Any suggestions?

Crashing - I feel your pain. I was 9 (and 10!) months pg in August so I got swollen beyond belief. I asked my OB what I could do to make it better. His response: "Have a baby." Chat Icon

Put your feet up as much as possible. At work, at home, everywhere - keep them elevated. Sit whenever you can. Avoid really salty foods. The most awful day of my entire pregnancy was the day after I ate Chinese food at 32w. I almost couldn't walk. Try to stay away from red meat, Lean Cuisine, stuff like that - it's full of sodium. And drink lots and lots of water - it helps flush the bloat out of your body.

As for shoes - if the weather gets over 50 degrees, I'd just start with the flip-flops. By 33w or so, I couldn't fit into any other shoes. By 38 or 39w, I could only fit into one pair of flip flops, ones from J Crew. My Fit Flops were even too tight! It was a nightmare. If it's too cold, I'd go for supportive athletic shoes, like running shoes. They will be cushiony and you can loosen the laces quite a bit so they aren't pressing on the tops of your feet.

I agree with Dava, just go straight to your fit flops if you can. I couldn't get anything else on my meat hooves after 29-30w. I also used to elevate my feet at night and put ice packs on them. And then my cat would try to lay on my legs, which was just not comfortable for anyone involved, lol.

I could have written this myself tonite. My left lower leg looks swollen. I was on my feet all day maybe I should sit more. And I'm having a hard time giving up the heels. I don't think I can do flips at work maybe crocs instead

Swelling began for me last week at 31 weeks. You may want to try and cut back on your sugar and salt intake which may help a bit.

Re: For those who had swollen ankles/feet:

I started swelling at 28-29 weeks last time. My feet would swell over my flats. It was gross. None of my shoes fit not even flip flops. For work, I ended up buying black sneakers 1 size larger than my regular size because my swelling was so bad. I had severe swelling though that went all the way up my legs. My BP started becoming an issue around that time too and I was eventually put on bedrest.

If its really bad, you may need to go up a size for shoes. I went to DSW and tried on tons of shoes 1-2 sizes up because nothing fit. I settled on the plan black sneakers because it somewhat contained the swelling. Flats really made my swelling noticeable.

Re: For those who had swollen ankles/feet:

Thanks so much ladies. It's good to know I'm not alone. I definitely need to cut back on the salt. I have a few Healthy Choice/ Lean Cuisine meals left (I will only eat one per week), and then I'm not buying anymore. I need more lunch ideas. I never really worried about sodium intake before, but considering I ate one of those meals yesterday, and my ankles were sausages by the end of the day, they have to go!

Re: For those who had swollen ankles/feet:

omg I am dealing with this now (35 + weeks). I've been living in uggs but lately they have been making me sweat lol. I hate wearing flip flops unless I'm at the beach because I hate my feet. I hate them even more now!

I'm going to try to hold out in uggs for the next 4 weeks lol. I have some flats but they hurt my feet because there is no support.

Maybe I'll try toms, they look comfy

Mine have been making my feet sweat this week too, and I'm almost 10 weeks behind you! I'm scared of what my feet will be like at the end!

I think I'm going to have to go out and buy some decent sneakers in a bigger size that I can wear to work. Luckily, my job is pretty casual, but I still want something that will look okay if I wear slacks.

my swelled up like balloons at 31w. for me it was because i was developing pre-e. i didnt know i thought it was just normal swelling. i was walking from my office to the subway (an avenue and a half) and it felt like my leg bones were just banging into jello when i was walking.

Re: For those who had swollen ankles/feet:

OMG i've been dealing with this since I was only 1-2 months!! I have tendonitis in my ankles normally - but they rarely ever swelled before I was pregant. Only ocassionally if I ran an abnormal amount. As soon as I got pregnant they started to swell and hurt!! My Dr. said its probably normal - tendonitis tends to kick in as soon as you become pregnant Chat Icon I've discovered nothing works except wearing supprotive shoes!!

I started with swollen feet/ankles at about 31 weeks (I'm 33 weeks now)... I was wearing black uggs to work but now its too hard to bend over & put them on! LOL

I have black moccasin-type shoes from kohls but they are getting crappy looking

I'm actually wondering W T H I'm going to wear on my feet for the next 7 weeks. I'm a teacher so I am on my feet a a lot. Alll my flats dont fit/hurt.

Easy Spirit makes sneakers with open backs. The black ones have patent leather on them so I wear them to work all the time. They are super comfy (like slippers) I am a teacher so I am always on my feet. Because they are open back they fit my big fat feet!

At 35 weeks, my feet have been out of control this week. I'm also a teacher, so I'm on my feet all day. I was living in comfy loafers mostly but now they're too tight. My uggs are too hot since my classroom is 1000 degrees. My sneakers and flip flops are too tight also. I actually changed into slippers halfway through the day today because I couldn't get my loafers back on after taking them off during lunch. Chat Icon I'm thinking about getting some crocs or some other pair of open backed loafers.

Ok so they arrived yesterday afternoon... I'm wearing them at work today & so far I love them! They aren't the prettiest looking things but they r cute enough & SOOO comfy!!!! They have the Vibram barefoot soles ... Pretty cool! They seem breathable too so I don't think they will smell from me wearing them with no socks lol!
