Re: For those that are 30 or over...

Thanks again, ladies.

I am trying to embrace the fact that tomorrow I will be 30. Hopefully the alcohol will work! Chat Icon

I still don't understand why this is upsetting me but I guess I just have to accept it, try to have fun and enjoy it.

My family threw a big party for me and truth be told, I felt in better shape at 30 than I did at 18! Turning 30 did not faze me at all!

Well I turned 30 yesterday and I can honestly say, even though I was dreading it and kinda mopey about it for awhile, I handled it fine. It was pretty anti-climactic, actually. I kept it real low key because I didn't want to hear all the "OMG your are THIIIRRRTY!!!" Maybe that helped, I don't know...

But I'm going out Saturday night to celebrate too so I will have a drink for you too Hollie! Chat Icon

I was wedding planning, so I was only semi-affected, but I did take the day off and I slept through the day & drank my azz off that night.Chat Icon

Re: For those that are 30 or over...

I am 32... Turning 30 was a breeze-- it was like a novelty. Turning 31 was like, holy sh!t, I am in my freakin' 30's! 32 was more of the same.

Something that a friend told me a few years ago though always stuck with me (he is 5 years older than me and told me this when he turned 30)-- After you turn 30, it takes the pressure off. Like, when you are in your 20's you have all these goals, by the time I am 30, I will be doing X, earning X, etc. When you get there, it's just like, it will happen when it happens.

I personally think that I have had my mid-life crisis a bit early in life, and I think now is the time to take control over your destiny, and figure out what YOU want to do with your life. Don't get caught up with how you are on paper. Just be happy and try to be the most successful person, by YOUR definition of success-- not anyone else's.

Re: For those that are 30 or over...

I was excited and relieved to turn 30. I lost both of my parents when I was 28-29, so I was glad to close that decade and look ahead. I also had just returned to school for a career change.

I had lots of great things happen in my 30s. Met my husband, got married, started a new career, got pregnant. I will turn 40 in a couple of months and look forward to that, since my baby will arrive shortly after that. Age is definitely a state of mind, and you have so many good things ahead of you. Celebrate it! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: For those that are 30 or over...

I was very sad when I turned 30. I kept thinking "my youth is over". I wasn't where I wanted to be in life (I was single, in an overpriced apartment, unhappy in general).

I am 36 now (thankfully, very happy wtih my life), but still get a little sad at each birthday, amazed at how FAST time flies......

I kind of just accepted the fact that I turned 30. It didn't seem like a big deal. But, I'm 32 now and not looking forward to 35. Chat Icon For some reason, FOR ME at that age, I feel like I'm old.

Hey Birthday Weekend twin (at least for this year!). Mine is Sunday. I'm not thrilled with 30 but I feel like I've been anxious about it for so long that it doesn't matter anymore!

Go out and enjoy yourself ! Live it up!

I turned 30 this year and it really didn't phase me. Maybe it was bc I had a baby a week earlier and didn't really think about my birthday. We'll see what happens next year.

Thanks ladies.

I did get a nice ring from Tiffany and Co for my birthday and there are diamonds.

I guess I thought I would have children by now and a house and stuff.

I know life doesn't always work out the way we planned.

Let's hope I partake in the alcohol on Saturday and laugh my azz off!

Try not to think of things on a timeline. From personal experience I can tell you it can drive you nuts. I did not even finish college until I was 30, no house, was not married yet..... I thought all of that would have happened in my 20's. Now that I look back on it, I realize that I love how everything worked out. Had things happened when I *thought* they should have, my life would be totally different.

I took the day off that day. I did not want to deal with a bunch of balloons at my desk.

LOL! this cracked me up! I can totally relateChat Icon

29 was tougher for me than 30. I was so bummed about 29 knowing it was the last year I'd be in my 20's. But....I just loved 30! It felt like a new beginning and I was so excited to move into a new phase. For my bday I went out with my friends, had so many bday dinners w/ ppl, and got two surprise parties! It was a lot of fun.

I honestly think my 30's have been as good as my 20's but for different reasons. One thing I will say is that my friends are busier and I don't see them as much as I did in my 20's. The "hang outs" are far fewer, and much more planned these days. But, I'm more financially secure, no more guy angst b/c I'm engaged now, and I have much more confidence in my decisions. I also have greater appreciation for my family and many other things in life. I'm no longer trying to "figure things out". I feel like I'm now in the "I know what I want" stage and am working to get it! That is fun also!

Chat Icon Happy Birthday!!

Turning 30 was the best thing that ever happened to me!!!

Turning 29 was the stressor, because I was "almost" 30 - but once I turned 30, I loved it!!!

I was feeling anxious about turning 30 in a few wks...but after recent events...it just doesn't seem to matter anymore.

I figure live everyday like it could be your last. Enjoy life and love with your whole heart, because you never know when the last kiss/hug is actually the last.

As the armchair psychologist comes out of me....I think that you should definitely enjoy your birthday and figure out what is bothering you about 30 after your celebratory day(s). It's usually not so good to ignore your feelings b/c they seem to find a way to bust out anyway - and it's never pretty when that happens! Haha! or at least that's how it goes with me....maybe you're different.

Re: For those that are 30 or over...

For some reason 27 hit me harder than 30! I remember thinking "O.M.G. I'm almost 30!" But by the time 30 came around I wasn't bothered by it at all. I look great, I love my life and I'm very happy, so I'm not going to sweat a number.
