For those over 35???? Advise Needed even if your under 35

I'm sort of new to this board. Lurk some, but I haven't been lurking or posting in months. I am a frequent poster on another board here. Not ready to post under my real screen name yet.

How many girls are over 35 and just TTC for the first time? I'm 37 and will be 38 in Sept. It makes me so nervous. We are probably going to start TTC at the end of the summer. I have to say I'm very nervous about the whole thing. I feel so pressured at this point. We would like 2 children, so this worries me a lot. How do you all handle this nervous feeling? I'm scared about the whole process from start to finish. Any advise would be great. Thanks!

I'm not over 35 - but i'm currently 33 and do realize that the clock is ticking.

You do have to realize and take into consideration that a LOT of women are having babies later in life & they are 100% healthy & happy!

While you are considered high risk after 35 - the chances are still WONDERFUL for having a healthy child.

ETA: my hair stylist is 40 years old and had a baby earlier this year!

I know that plenty of woman get PG after 35, but it just seems a lot more scarey when you are closer to that 40 mark. Thank you for your positive words. I have to make myself a doctors appoint very soon and start from there. I have so many questions I guess for my doctor. Any words of advise for TTC over 35? Thing you should or shouldn't do? Any advise would help me a lot at this point. Thanks ladies! Chat Icon

Like u , I am 37 , wil be 38 in september. Nowadays there isnt that scare factor that your talking about. You have nothing to worry about. Look at all the women , ie: say in hollywood, that have babies , well over 35. I belive as long as you take care of yourself, pre baby, youll be fine,,

I had my DD when I just turned 37. She is perfectly fine! Now we are working on #2 and I am 38 too.

As for advice, if you periods have always been regular and everything seems ok, then just go for it! I would either chart or start using ovulation sticks to find out when you ovulate now- I wouldn't wait until you start trying since you are time limited. When you do get pregnant, I definately recommend having a CVS over a amnio- you have it done before 12 weeks so it really does help reduce the worry. Chat Icon Feel free to FM me with any questions!

I will have to get the ovulation sticks, but I seem to know when for the most part if you know what I mean. Chat Icon What is a CVS? I know what an amnio is, but not a CVS. I'm sure I'll be FMing you at some point. Thank you for the offer. Chat Icon

ETA: I have always had regular periods since the beginning, so hopefully that will be a good thing for me. My biggest concern is that I have a mild case of IBS and I am hoping it doesn't get worse when I get PG. I have read it can go either way when you get PG. Hopefully it will go away completely. i am going to be 35 next month, and it scares me i always wanted 2 children and it will be a year of trying, i know that has nothing to do with age, but it makes me think if it is taking me this long to have one, how old will i be if i am able to have a second

just start trying when you are ready and see what happens from there, you can't worry yet it will only make you crazy

I don't mean to be an alarmist but I would def. at least have your DH get a SA and CD3 blood testing for you before you even start TTC. You need to know if you are facing any possible obstacles rather than wasting time. Also, most will tell you to TTC on your own for only 6 months before going to a RE for help since you are over 35.

I am 35 and I still feel so young! I do have one DD and I was 33 when we conceived her. So I am not nervous about it nor do I pay much attention to my age. Plenty of women are in their 40's and conceive. We are all still in the game!!!Chat Icon

I was 33 when I conceived DD and was 34 when I conceived this baby (I am now 35). I had slight issues with conceiving #2, but that was likely because I was still breastfeeding my daughter.

I've already got my sights set on #3- and I'll be in my late 30s by then.

Hi! I know the nervous feeling well. I'm 38 and just got my BFP in May. It took us about 8 cycles of trying.

I've been lurking on this site for a while Chat Icon and have gotten a lot of good advice.

What worked for me, was reading the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility and also tracking my cycles on mymonthlycycles.com. I never did the temping part of TCOYF, (I get up way too many times at night for it to be accurate), but it taught me a lot about recognizing my body's fertility signals. After a few months, the tracking information on my cycles got more and more accurate. I also took Mucinex to help with CM.

I'm in pretty good health and don't have any underlying conditions to worry about. I did go for a physical when we started TTC and talked things out with my doctor. I also started on prenatal vitamins right from the beginning. I try to take everything one day at a time and take care of myself and the little bean the best I can. When I first found out, I read everything about pregnancy I could find and started to get scared because there's lots of scary stories out there.

I'm about 9 weeks and am just crossing my fingers and listening to the doctor. I'll be 39 when the baby is born, the same age my mom was when I left for college!

I think everyone gets nervous about TTC and pregnancy. I've been told it only gets worse when the baby actually comes! I wish you lots of hugs and baby dust!

Re: For those over 35???? Advise Needed even if your under 35

I was 34 when we started trying and we got PG our second cycle.

I was a little nervous at first, mostly that it would take a while to get PG, but for the most part I was calm - I just took the approach that me getting worried and stressed wouldn't help me in any way.

I also kept in mind that both of my parents were born to 40 year old mothers, my mother was 40 when she had my baby sister and my sister-in-law was 36 when she had her first child - all of these pregnancies created perfectly healthy babies.

Try not to stress, I know it's easier said than done, but the stress can only hurt, not help you. There are many healthy babies born to women over 35, everything will be fine Chat Icon
