For those of you thinking about Breastfeeding...
On Monday I looked up the thread on EDGEPARK which is a mail order company that ships breastpumps through your health insurance. I had ran into the thread a few times on here but finally called since we're getting closer to my due date.
They took all of my info and my insurance info and said that they will process it and to followup in 24-72 hours.
I just got a phone call from them and also check on their website, it looks as if insurance is covering in FULL a Medela Pump In Style Advance -- Metro Bag version, which goes for $349 on BRU's website.
They are just pending Dr Approval but I am sure my doctor will approve it! I will let you all know how it works out.
But definately look up the Edgepark thread if you are thinking of breastfeeding. The medela pumps are great, but expensive, but it's a must if you are planning on breastfeeding, IMO. And to have it even partially covered by insurance is a great savings!

Re: For those of you thinking about Breastfeeding...
This is what CIGNA says
Coverage Policy Coverage for breast pumps is subject to the terms, conditions and limitations of the applicable benefit plan’s Durable Medical Equipment (DME) benefit and schedule of copayments. Please refer to the applicable benefit plan document to determine benefit availability and the terms, conditions, and limitations of coverage. Under many benefit plans, coverage for DME is limited to the lowest-cost alternative. If coverage is available for breast pumps, the following conditions of coverage apply. CIGNA covers a breast pump as medically necessary when EITHER of the following criteria is met: • The infant and mother are separated due to hospitalization, and direct breastfeeding is not possible. • The infant has a medical condition or congenital anomaly that prevents effective breastfeeding.

Re: For those of you thinking about Breastfeeding...
It is amazing how different insurances cover different things!
And even within one "Name" of insurance there are different levels I guess, so some cover more then others.
But it's definately worth the shot. Even if you have to pay SOME, it's better then paying ALL!

I have BCBS and when I called the insurance they told me it would not be covered. I contacted Edge Park as well and told them what plan I have, they told me I would be responsible for like $50 they just needed to verify w/my insurance. A day or two later I got a call saying it wasnt covered

I didn't even bother, since my insurance company doesn't cover a whole lot! But it's great if you can get it covered! Huge savings!

Yep, Every plan is different. If the insurance company told you it is covered then I would think you are all set. It was edge park that told me it would be mostly covered and then that changed.

If it's not covered under your health plan you can pay for it with your FSA or HSA account.

Just called UHC to see if it was covered and it is not under my plan.
Pretty ridiculous considering some of the things they cover.

Yeah it really stinks! Empire is such a good plan otherwise. Maybe your plan covers more, it is worth the call to see.

I am hoping we have some coverage. My MIL has our insurance too but hers is a different plan than ours since she is a state employee.
