First sleep over?

How old was your LO when they had their first overnight somewhere without you?

I feel like DH and I need a night to ourselves to reconnect with each other but it's hard to let her go. Both grandmas are just waiting for the signal! They are dying to have her for a night.

Re: First sleep over?

Honestly, my oldest was 5. She stayed at my sisters after the hurricane for a night. She cried t first, but slept with my mom, who was also there, and slept all night.

She doesn't want to sleep at my il's. I get what you are saying, but it hasn't really come up

First sleep over?

Dd just had her first overnight at Grandma's without me a few weekends ago. She was a week away from turning 1. She spends a lot of nights there with me, (probably at least 4 nights a month) so she did great.

14-15 months. She stayed overnight at my BIL's while the IL's were visiting from FL and got SOOO spoiled by them all. DH and I went to Fire Island for the night and well...9 months later her little sister was born! Chat Icon Chat Icon

First sleep over?

dd was about 3 weeks old when she slept at grandmas for the first time. she is now 4 months and has stayed there about 4-6 times so far. the first one was tough - kept rolling over and looking to check on her before realizing she wasnt home! but we knew she was in good hands. now, the sleepovers are a piece of cake - drop off early and pick up late the next day! grandma loves spending time wtih her and we enjoy some alone time.

if you have no plans, to make the first one easier, maybe go to grandmas house an hour or so before bedtime and hang out there. then have grandma put her to sleep and stick around just in case there are problems. then in the morning have your mom call when they wake up and pick her up whenever you feel comfortable.
if you have plans, then just go out and enjoy yourself!!!

Re: First sleep over?

My DD was around 3 or 4 weeks old. We both just desperately needed a full night's sleep. She stayed over at my parents' house. When we got there we stayed for several hours before leaving (my parents were joking that we were going to change our minds and not leave).

This Friday we are leaving her with my sister for two nights. My sister will come stay over at our house since it's a full weekend and it will just be easier to have access to all of her stuff. We have a wedding in Chicago which is why we are going. Even though she is older I would say I am sadder to leave her this time because now she does more than just sleep all day.

Re: First sleep over?

DD was 16 months the first time we went away for one night.
She stayed in our house and my parents stayed with her.
It was easier that way- all her stuff, her crib, her routine was there.

Re: First sleep over?

I had DD before we got married. I did a practice run around 9 months I think and DD stayed at my parents house for 4 nights while DH and I went to Montauk for our honeymoon. She did great! Now she is almost 7 and sleeps at my moms like once a month. She has slept over MIL's maybe twice.

First sleep over?

DS was about 8 months old. We went to Disney for my birthday and we left him for a week. He did great! He sleeps at my parents house at random times and with no problem. If my IL's watch him, they usually stay here for an overnight bc they don't have a bed for him at their house on the same floor.

Same. It was annoying to have to pump and I was kinda sad but it was nice to get some alone time.

Re: First sleep over?

As soon as they were sleeping through the night. DS1 was probably 5-6 months the first sleepover. dS2 was a little older because he took forever to sleep through, probably 10 months or so.

DS was 2.5 and DD was 1 month. I didn't want to leave them but my hubby planned something for our anniversary last weekend and I didn't have the heart to say no. It was good to recharge and go away.

Re: First sleep over?

DD was about 12 weeks. I didn't have any plans but my mother wanted so bad to stay with her overnight. First night was hard but after that she stayed 4 more nights, different days. My mom went back to Florida so I no longer have anyone to watch her for the night.
I say, go out, have a blast and enjoy the late sleep. Your baby will be in good hands and will probably get more attention there.. Lol

Same thing happened to me. My mom would call me first thing in the morning to brag about how much DD slept. Would get me so upset.Chat Icon Chat Icon
