First Feedings

Ok, so DS had an appointment yesterday with the pediatrician. He is now four months. When I got home I realized I had forgot to ask about cereal and called to speak to the doctor. She said, no cereal yet and to start with 3 teaspoons of veggies and to progress over the week. Then try a new veggie every week, then fruit, and then cereal. I was fine with this, but everyone around me is Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon about this. Anyone else been told to do this?

Re: First Feedings

Never heard of starting veggies first..usually it's cereal first b/c it's less hard on their stomachs. I'd ask what the thought process is.. maybe he's got a good reason..I'd be interested to know actually. Chat Icon

She said they like veggies the least, so to get that out of the way. The fruits and cereal they don't usually have a problem with.

Re: First Feedings

I started both my sons with about a tsp of rice, 1tsp of fruit and almost an oz of formula. Never had any problems with fruit or veggies.

Re: First Feedings

Started DD at just after 4 months with 1 tbs rice and fruit (apples, pears and peaches).
Now at almost 5 months we are doing 2 tbs oatmeal with fruit in am and veggies at night.

Re: First Feedings

i started with avacodo first - no one says you have to start with cereal first

if your baby is gassy i would start with non-green vegatables first -

there is thought about not introducing sweet food first is better for the pallet and obesity - try to prevent craving too many sweets
