Feds....looks like it could really be happening this time.
our office is holding a meeting today to discuss contingency plans in the even of a shut down. it's never gone this far before.
we've been getting steady emails from the Head of my agency as well. Top Dog doesn't email the little folk all that often. 
what is the chatter with you all?

Good luck to everyone, I hope it's a quick shutdown if it does come to that.
I think it's disgusting that the politicians can't learn to compromise and now hundreds of thousands of families, including military families, will be without paychecks. Meanwhile the politicians will still be getting their paychecks.

This was my first thought yesterday. Take their paychecks away for every day they can't come to a decision...I bet they'll amazingly have the solutions asap. If you're not doing your job, you don't deserve to get paid.

I am still praying they resolve the budget. It is ashame what is going on with this country, what are people going to do to feed their families and pay bills, just so scary with the way things are being handled.

there are certain positions that are excempt from the furlough and therefore will be paid. military is one of them as is some law enforcement (just not my particular agency). thanks GOd.
ETA: I know there was a bill on the floor to have the congress go unpaid as well in the event of a furlough. I can't remember if it ever passed though.

Dh and I were talking about this last night. He said it wont effect him working b/c he is considered "necessary personnel" but he prob still wont be getting a check because the people who process them won't be working. Hopefully this is resolved soon! Luckily we have $ in the bank and we will still have my income but I feel terrible for families that rely solely on that one income and don't have savings.

Yes, and I also agree w/another PP that if you took away their paychecks this would have been resolved months ago and we wouldn't even be talking about it.

Us too... a slew of meetings today and a teleconference with senior management of our Agency in headquarters.
I think it's happening... guess I'll be using the time off to paint our new house!

I thought military, SS/ Medicare, and Homeland Security were exempt?
I guess they may be paid late or get retro?

You know what is so f*cked up? My DH's job is considered essential - he's fed law enforcement (customs/border protection) but if the budget doesn't get passed he STILL does not ge paid. Has to go in to work but won't get paid. So we are paying for child care - because he is AWOL if he stays home - but he's not bringing in any money. I am DISGUSTED by these idiots.

The problem is that the people who cut the paychecks may not be working and that's why it would be late. For example, my dad is a civilian working for the Air Force, and part of his job is to oversee the system that pays some of the troops. If he and his colleagues are told not to come to work and the system goes down, those payees are out of luck.

My dh is considered non essential gov employee. I am a SAHM, luckily we have some savings, but I really don't want to tap into it. Do you still have to work even if you don't get paid?
