Fate?

Do you believe it was fate or destiny that brought you and your SO together?

bleh as much as i hate to sound like a hopeless romantic, i defaintely believe fate bought us together. When i look at HOW i came to meet him... it just seems like every single step was deliberate in bringing me to him, and the wierd thing is that i met him at Stony Brook, but i changed my mind at the last minute b/c i originally was going to go to Florida state b/c i got a full scholarship there, and HE also changed his mind about going to florida state, and ended up at SB also- so i feel like even if we didnt meet where we did, we still wouldve met (there are quite a bit of parallels like that with us, but i dont want to bore you though )

That's a damned good question. We have known each other for almost 20 years as friends and I swore I would never date him. Lo and behold - one New Years Eve we got together and I fell for him hook, line and was sunk!!! Would you say that is destiny or fate?

I think of it more like "chance"....The situation was as crazy as they come. But had the situation I was in, not occured, I would never had met DH, so yes Chance is a good way of putting it I think.

I kind of think they are the same thing...and it was definitely fate...after all that we had each been through we certainly didn't meet by chance.

I think our relationship was definately fate and destined to happen. We had known each other since we were both 16, had mutual friends...lost touch then for 8 years...then the mutual friends got married and we were partners in their wedding but with other people at the time. We felt something for each other but were stuck in bad relationships. Lost touch again for another year, meanwhile he broke up with his gf and my dumb ex cheated on me. My friend took me out to forget about things and we wound up being in the same bar. From that night out, we were together. Kept coming back to each other for one reason or another and have never been apart since.

I would say fate. I had a deposit in a summer house in the Hamptons, changed my mind at the last minute and decided on a Fire Island share - where we met.

Meeting my DH IMO was completely accidential. We just happened to be at the same place. DO i think some could call that fate...sure but i think it was all by chance and me acting on it

I don't believe it was fate or destiny, although DH does. He grew up in Israel, and his mom is a child of the holocaust who has absolutely NO family - except for one cousin who ended up moving to Great Neck, NY (where I grew up) after the war. They found each other when DH was about 8, so every year he and his mom would come to Great Neck to visit - I was right down the street. Then DH moved to NYC 8 years ago, and I was planning on moving up to NYC for law school and at the last minute decided to stay in Philadelphia. 9-11 happened so DH had to close shop and move down to Philadelphia. One year later, we met online... he thinks it was meant to be and that if he hadn't moved down to Philadelphia, we would have met in NY, but I really don't believe in that stuff...

What is really creepy though is that if it wasn't for 9-11 I don't think we would have met...

It could have been fate, destiny, or extremely great luck!! I find it very curious that I met my DH two weeks before my mom died. She knew how sick she was and was extremely worried about who would take care of me. She was my best friend. I know for an absolute fact she wanted me to meet someone wonderful. She also wanted to meet him but never got the chance. It makes a lot of sense because I would have never gotten through the past few years without my husband.

definitely fate.....we met in a bar in my neighborhood that i had not set foot into my entire life. the one night i went, bc my friend's apt had no AC and the bar did....we met!

Neither. Just coincidence that we were in the same place at the same time. We went to high school together, not that I knew it at the time, and we were both at a place where a bunch of people from high school hung out.

Neither - I don't believe in fate or destiny. We just happened to meet...and it just happened to work.

I dunno...I think it was just the natural selection of things. I try not to analyze or label it too much. It just is.

I'd say it was fate for us as well.
I wasn't supposed to go to Hofstra. I was supposed to go to another school and then I found out that I couldn't afford it. So I went to Hofstra, and hated it, but I joined a sorority to make school more bearable- and that's when I met my DH who became my best friend

I think there's a certain amount of fate involved, maybe..a certain amount of luck or chance that causes you to meet. I know when I first met him he just stcuk in my mind for a reason i couldn't pinpoint. Meeting him just planted itself in my brian as important before I even knew him liked him, and of course loved him. But you also have to act on it, and you have to have the strenght and determination to make it work. After all we've been through together I can't attribute it all to fate, and us coming together so well to chance. Every moment of it was a conscious choice to do the right thing, the thing best for us, and not the easy thing or the selfish thing, etc. So I think it's a little bit of fate and a lot of choice.

I met my husband in church so I believe it was God who brought us together. It was probably fate that we were at the same mass though
