Failed my 3 Hour....I have gestational diabetes
so my doctor just called me and told me my numbers from my 3 hour test werent good. She told me i have to go see a nutritionist to see if i can manage it by altering my diet. She also wants me to start seeing a high risk doctor. I'm so bummed, every time i think about it i start crying. i'm so nervous now for my LO.

Don't feel so bad. Diabetes is totally managable and happen to plenty of moms to be. I've been dealing with it my entire pregnancy and I'm sure you can handle it with diet. The nutriotionist will go over everything with you.

Re: Failed my 3 Hour....I have gestational diabetes
Aww, I know just how you feel. I was diagnosed with GD as well. The GOOD news is that the vast majority (I think over 90%) of cases are totally manageable by diet alone. Mine is!
I know it feels so devastating right now, but I promise you it's been so easy to manage and it will be for you, too! You'll feel a lot better after meeting with the nutritionist.
Please feel free to FM me if you have any questions or just want to vent. You'll be OK!

Re: Failed my 3 Hour....I have gestational diabetes
one perk to the crappiness of gd is seeing the high risk doc and all the attention, you get a ton of sonos, one weekly so in a way you get to see so much more of your cubs progress.... this is what keeps me going week to week

Re: Failed my 3 Hour....I have gestational diabetes
thank you everyone for the support. i'm sure like others daid, i will feel better after meeting with the nutrionist and getting the real low down on whats going on, its just frustrating. i pretty much sailed through this entire pregnancy with a breeze so i guess it was bound to catch up with me sometime!

Re: Failed my 3 Hour....I have gestational diabetes
I had it with my first pregnancy and was borderline with my second. Don't worry, it'll be fine! Altering your diet seems daunting at first, but you will get the hang of it and you'll eventually know what your triggers are.
Just be careful with the diet they give you. When I followed it to the letter I woke up one morning and my blood sugar was 32! I felt like I was going to pass out! So you can follow their diet as a guideline, but once you are taking your blood sugar after each meal you will be able to determine what is best for you.
And the LO will be fine! Just make sure you take care of you and the rest will fall into place

Before I met with the nutritionist, I was so scared, thinking I couldn't eat any bread or carbs ever again. I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing and it was scary. But once I was told what to do, it was easy to follow and not scary at all anymore.
It's so scary at first, but I promise you you'll be OK! And there are lots of ladies here who are going through the same thing who sent very supportive FMs and responses to my upset threads too. We're here for you!

Re: Failed my 3 Hour....I have gestational diabetes
I took the 3 hour last week. Fortunately I passed, but until I got those results I was a nervous wreck. I kept on crying and thinking I had done something wrong. I spoke with A LOT of people who have experienced this and every single person has said that it is totally manageable, nothing that you have done wrong, and that the baby will be fine. I have yet to hear any bad stories and believe me, I was looking for that one person to confirm my worst fears. Never found them.
Hang in there

Jackie, do you go to LI Women's Healthcare? Dr. Bergman is the high risk doctor that I see and he comes to the office twice a month on Thursdays. He really is wonderful...explains everything to me in detail. I always feel so much better after seeing him.
