Re: epidural- thoughts???
my ultimate goal is to have a completely natural birth. my mom did it i think 3 (out of 5 children) times and she is an inspiration to me. everyone i ever tell thinks i am crazy for wanting this but i am determined! HOWEVER i have never been in labor and will def. keep an epidural in my plan/mind, just more of a backup rather than a neccessity.

I'm going to do my best to avoid it. I won't say it's something I will never do though because you never know!

Re: epidural- thoughts???
well... as a BTDT, I'll tell ya... that epi was a GOD SEND. no joke.
I was in my 2nd day of a serial induction so once the dr broke my water, I progressed much more rapidly than I believe my body would have naturally. I believe i was around 6cm when I got the epi - and I was basically begging for it. I went in with the "we'll see how it goes" attitude, and that was definitely the way it went. I dont think i would have been able to go another few hours and then push for 3 hours without it. I got the epi, went to sleep, and woke up at 9.5cm.
I did not feel the epi being inserted or removed at all.
I give all you ladies who want to go natural all the credit in the world. In my situation, I couldn't do it and I was very comfortable with my decision.

Re: epidural- thoughts???
i dont want to get one but we will see - i am extremely terrified of needles so i would have to be on my death bed to get that big thing in me lol
i have passed kidney stones without drugs so i can imagine at least what birth would feel like

Couldn't have made it though without it! I give a lot of credit to those who give birth without drugs. Like Bethanny said on RHWONY it made the lamb stop screaming!!!

Re: epidural- thoughts???
Plans are great - but just be prepared for something to not work out as planned.
With my first I labored naturally for 30+ hours (no epidural) and wound up needing an emergency c-section. Because of that I wound up with an epidural. Of course by that point I wanted the baby OUT and was happy to get that end result any way possible.

Re: epidural- thoughts???
No drugs for me. I am afriad of them and afraid of how my body will react to them. I am determied to go natural. However, if my LO or myself is in jeapordy then of course i would take one.

Re: epidural- thoughts???
I have a very very high tolerance to pain and have been through some pretty serious medicial situations in the past decade. That being said, after being given a small dose of morphine in the emergency room on one occasion, I decided that I am fully in favor of an epi and there is no reason to unnecessarily suffer through pain if you dont have to.

I definitely plan on having one and did with both of my girls, but I'm not sure if I will make it to the hospital in time. I barely did with my second. She was born in 3 hours.

Re: epidural- thoughts???
I think t here are various reasons people wouldn't want an epidural. Some are concerned with the side effects it may have on them (spinal headache, back issues etc) and some may be concerned about the side effects it could potentially have on the baby (slowing down labor, inc. risk of c-section etc)

Re: epidural- thoughts???
When I was pregnant with DS I said that I didn't want to have an epi, that I wanted to give birth without drugs, but I also said I reserved the right to change my mind.
I got to 4 cm and I gave in and asked for the epi. It was the BEST decision of my life.
When I had DD, I went in and immediately asked for the epi!
I have no regrets and give credit to all the moms who do it without drugs, but for me it was a wonderful experience with the epi both times!
