egg whites
so my ped says no egg whites till the babies are 1 year old. My girls will be 1 in sept, however they will not be 1 adjusted age till november. We go off of their adjusted age for all food realted items.
What do I do about a birthday cake?? One of my girls can not have any dairy. I cant seem to find a cake recipie that is dairy and egg free.

Re: egg whites
Do you plan on making their birthday cake? If so I googled egg & dairy free cakes & there were some sites that came up with egg/dairy free cake recipes.

Re: egg whites
Look for a vegan cake...or google vegan cake recipes if you plan on making one.
I don't have a recipe off-hand, I've made one before just from googles vegan recipes- but I wouldn't recommend that recipe

Re: egg whites
I would verify with the ped that he means egg whites in in a baked product- a cake might be fine. Ds has severe food allergies including egg but can tolerate eggs in baked goods but we would never give him straight eggs. If so-We use one of the gluten-dairy free mixes and substitute the egg with applesauce roughly 1 egg= 1/2 applesauce.

This! I asked my doc about things that are MADE with eggs, and she said that was fine. At 11 months, DS HAS already had turkey meatloaf, which had egg and tastes of regular cake, among other things.

Re: egg whites
DS has had food with eggs since he was 8 months old... Pancakes, etc. I asked about the egg whites too and he said it's different when it's a food cooked with eggs. I just gave DS just eggs for breakfast when he was 1, but like I said... Stuff cooked with eggs are different.

Cherrybrook makes some great cake mixes that are sold at Whole Foods. I think the chocolate is the best one.

Re: egg whites
dont be nervous, every ped is different. My ped said to follow the 3 day rule and start with egg yolk and then move on to egg white and if thats ok I can scramble the whole egg. If he's allergic you would have known by now.

Re: egg whites
If you want to make your own there are tons of allergy friendly cookbooks or the Cherrybrook mixes are great.
There are some really good allergy friendly bakeries.
Local bakeries:
Bare Naked Bakery in Bellmore
There's a regular bakery on Jerusalem Ave in Bellmore that can do allergy friendly cakes. I've seen people post about it on here but search isn't working for me right now.
Mail-order bakeries
My ds is dairy/peanut/egg white allergic. He LOVES the cookies & candy from Divvies He's not a cake kid, but their cupcakes are good too. They have a fantastic cookbook (try borrowing it from the library to look it over) with tons of dessert recipies.

egg whites
I'm making this cake for DD...egg and dairy free!! We'll have a regular cake for guests. It's from Wholesome Baby Food:
Apple Spice Cake
As with any "non traditional" cake, the batter for this cake will not seem "right" so don't panic!
1/2 cup molasses 1 cup applesauce 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp cloves 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda 1-3/4 cup flour 1 tsp ginger
Mix the molasses and applesauce in a large bowl. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Bake in a nonstick 8 x 8-inch baking pan or one sprayed with a non-stick spray, in a 350° F for 30 to 45 minutes, or until it tests done.
**The batter may be a bit dry and you may need to add more applesauce or a bit of water. Try adding 1/4 cup of applesauce first then gradually add a bit of water by tablespoon**
I have added a bit of pure cocoa (2 tablespoons) to make a chocolate flavor.

This is what I was going to suggest. I've made their stuff before and it's really good! And allergen free. A lot of supermarkets carry it.
