Re: Ebola patient in Dallas dies
No way! I JUST heard on 1010WINS that he was stable?! His son was giving an interview talking "to" his quarantined mom.
They were talking about how they were going to Euthanize and incinerate their dog since it could also be a carrier.
ETA: Oops- apparently I got my stories mixed up. The Dog story was about a nurse in Madrid.
I just read that his son drove hundreds of miles to visit and wasn't allowed to see him (obviously). They offered to let him skype last night but he said he'd do it today

Ebola patient in Dallas dies
This is the man that allegedly came here to try and get US treatment while knowingly suffering from Ebola thus possibly infecting everyone he came in contact with.
I have very little sympathy. I do feel sad for his family, but his selfishness put our entire country at risk for an outbreak.
Can we send him back to Africa and they can dispose of his body properly?

Ebola patient in Dallas dies
Next up The hindsight Do we cremate him, what then? will the family wishes be met etc Clock is still ticking on the rest. Its been at least Sept 24th when his symptoms were present. So two weeks max on the outside to see if anyone else contracted it? (Hospitalized on the 28th)
I don't know why they are grilling the hospital on why he wasn't given experimental drugs earlier. Its not like the stuff is just readily available. They sent lots of it over to Africa.
Blame game has started and frankly I think the blame starts with him lying during his travels.

I think this is how karma works. His selfishness put many innocent people at risk. I am not surprised he did not get the 'miracle drug' or a blood transfusion from a survivor.

I am not saying what he did was right but I thought he went to the hospital and told them he was in Africa? I didn't really read much on him but it seems obvious he came here just in case he does have it he would get better treatment. he didn't start experiencing anything till after he got here and when he did he sought help. I don't think he purposely meant to expose everyone but I could be wrong

This isn't how karma works. If I steal food because I am hungry I don't break my leg as "punishment".
I wouldn't call what he did necessarily selfish. Desperate maybe? In certain areas of Africa you would be amazed at what they believe. Some don't even believe Ebola is real. If he was told the USA could cure him he may have believed he stood a chance.
It's all around sad and this epidemic is horrific.

Re: Ebola patient in Dallas dies
Sad he died. Was it wrong that he lied. Yes. Most definitley!! He put all of his family, and the united states at risk! It was wrong!! And I get why people say good riddance! But he did also tell the hospital. But I can't imagine finding out I had a death sentence. Maybe he didnt think he had it. But Knowing I may have been around an infected person and now iam scared, Would I have a chance if I leave Africa? I dont what I would do honestly? I sit here now and say i wouldnt have lied, I would have seeked help and treatment where I was. I wouldnt want to infect my loved ones. I would die in Africa. But ya know what, I know I can't honestly answer this question. I think I would be scared shit, many emotions would go through my mind. Maybe I would go crazy and only care about myself!! Maybe I would just hop on a plane. I can see how and why he came here. I dont know..I just dont know what I would do until I was in his shoes. I can only hope and pray this does not happen again. I pray for his family and friends.

Here's a question. Who is paying for his hospital bills? All these experimental drugs they want to come to the US to get...who is paying for it? Did he have health insurance? Is his family paying for it?

Jesse Jackson has been hanging with the family, maybe he's footing the bill?

I agree--he came he b/c he knew he was infected, made no effort to quarantine himself, and made no effort to seek immediate treatment. He put others (including children) at risk.
Sorry, but I have trouble feeling sympathy. He may have been desperate, but acted very selfishly.

Re: Ebola patient in Dallas dies
This is so sad! His death makes his entire ordeal for nothing. He could have stayed in Africa and died without exposing 100 people in Texas. I was really praying he would survive so at least it counted for something and gave hope to the American camera man here and the Spanish nurse. .
If NOTHING else, at least he opened our eyes to how unprepared some of our countries hospitals are, and how easy it is for infected people to get here. I nobody in his family (or anyone he came into contact with) contracted Ebola!

DH is a funeral director, we're in TX now and the instructions he got last week from the CDC indicate that direct cremation is preferred or that the body is immediately placed in a hermetically sealed casket for burial.
And that is if they can even find a funeral home in Dallas or the surrounds to take custody of the body.

call for the remains to be immediately shrouded in plastic and double-bagged in leak-proof bags at the hospital, then promptly cremated or buried in an airtight casket.

Ebola patient in Dallas dies
He passed a health screening in Liberia before he left. He didnt show symptoms until 4 days after he got back here and sought medical attention immediately. If he passed the screening, how would he have know he was carrying the virus? Should he have suspected it? Probably, but I would think he was trying to hope for the best.
With that said, its very sad this man has died. Condolences to his family. I cant imagine what theyre going through right now.

Ebola patient in Dallas dies
Although I think the Hospital is to blame for sending him home, I do not blame them for his death or treatment.
I just feel bad the hospital will have to deal with the backlash for so long on what was really his choice. Yes I think he knew. Yes we know he lied. Point blank LIED. Why lie if you think you're fine? Because you know they'll stop you? Well then.
I predict payment for his treatment will fall to the hospital because this guy's family and girl friend will be all over the news saying how they didn't treat him fast enough, well enough etc. Poor us, he died of a VERY deadly disease because of the hospital and not because of the VERY DEADLY DISEASE!
They were smart enough to start that campaign pretty early on.
Next up will be a fundme site to pay for the services and or other bills.
How about who pays for the extra costs the hospital will absorb? But after all that's what ACA should cover right? Uninsured, non American sick people? Even if its a deadly contagious disease brought here on purpose?

Wow. This is a bit harsh to be glad he is dead.
I think was he did was selfish and desperate (and wrong), but if it was me I can't say I wouldn't have tried to save myself. I would never have wished this on him, but I do hope others see that you do not automatically survive just by being in this country, and that it deters others from trying to get into the US when they know they have been exposed.

I think this might hopefully be the only good to come of this. I hope it serves to show people that sneaking into the US won't save you.

Agree. Although I do feel bad for his family what he did was selfish. If there is any silver lining to his death I hope it's the fact that others with the same idea as him see that just because you can get treated in the US, it doesn't guarantee you will get cured.

These are my thoughts exactly. He probably came here desperate, thinking that he would be cured under the care of US doctors/hospital.
