Ear Tubes & water question
OK so all you mommies & daddies that have kids that have tubes in there ears. I ALWAYS make sure dd has her ear plugs in when she takes a bath well last night my MIL babysat & she gave DD a bath and she didnt put in her plugs, should i be worried what should I look out for???

My ped actually said that ear infections and tubes in the ears are unrelated to water getting in the ears. In fact, she said that they DON'T recommend ear plugs, which I thought was interesting ...

really, hmm thats interesting every time we go the ent we see is always like remember No water in the ears make sure you keep them dry.. They made me so nervous that i had custom ear plugs made that cost 100 bucks!! ugh.. lol guess im a s*cker lol
OK so then i guess she should be ok with a little bath water :) thanks guys

With my older son who is now almost 8.5, the ENT said he HAD to use ear plugs when in the water. We got the moldable kind from the ENT themselves. It was about 7 years since he got them so I know for sure things change constantly with the rules and kids! With every kids I've had the Ped. has new rules!

Interesting...we have an appt to get the molds made for DS's ears bc we spend alot of time at the beach and figured we'd need them this summer. However, he's been taking baths since he got them in March, and although he splashes a bit, we are very careful when washing his hair and we don't pour water over his head. We were at a pool yesterday and he didn't go in, but was splashing around alot and we put earplugs in as a precaution. So funny how different docs have different opinions.

ENT told us no ear plugs etc too. DS had tubes in November 2011

our ent says to wear them when they are submerged under water - so a little splashing or bucket over the head should not be too bad
it also depends on the kids - my older son gets an ear infection if he gets any water in his ear - my younger toonot so much
don't stress too much. If she get an ear infection - you just give drops. You will know she has ear infection because you will see crust or fluid draining from her ear - My ENT gave us drops and i only go in if they get a fever or it does not go away after a few days
the best way to put drops in their ear is to pull lobe of ear back as you put drops in and pump on the cartilidge in front after you put the drop in

Interesting my ENT not only recommended but fit her there for them. Recommended at least 6m of wear.
But an occasional lapse would be no big deal.
