Re: ear tubes mommies

DS had them and I can't remember if it was 4 in 6 months or 4 in a year. I want to say more than 4 in a year.

Re: ear tubes mommies

I think it was 4x a year

But reality is AJ had 9 in the year she finally got them approved. They wanted to wait until she was older.

Re: ear tubes mommies

I think it really depends on the situation. My DD just got them done November 3, and she had chronic infections as well as couldn't drain the discgusting fluid (they called it "glue ear" Chat Icon ) but I have known kids who had it done who didn't have that many infections, but were not draining the fluid. This can lead to hearing loss.

My DD had 3 ear infections in a very short period of time and when the infections stopped, the fluid wasn't draining...it was 6 months from first ear infection to tubes.

DS was on antibotics on and off from November - Feb. He had about 8 ear infections in that time. Tubes got put in April. He was a little over 1 at that time. He will be 3 in Feb and we have had no ear infections since then (knock on wood).

Re: ear tubes mommies

Liam had about 4 in 6 months. But, then he also got C diff.. which is a bacterial overgrowth (very dangerous) in the gut from overuse of antibiotics. So they recommended tubes asap since he has to stay away from antibiotics unless it's really really really needed for a long time.

So I don't know if that's the standard. I do know that it wasn't so much the amount of infections but, also if the fluid cleared up in between infections. Liam's hadn't. He had a hearing loss.. as would any child with fluid in the ears. This would affect speech development.

Re: ear tubes mommies - with another question

My DS got tubes at 9 mo. Part of it was that he had 5 ear infections in less than a year, the other part was that fluid was just sitting in his ear and not draining which caused a hearing loss.

Re: ear tubes mommies - with another question

I think as someone said above...it depends on the situation and whats been taking place with DC. My DD would have to go through 2 or 3 courses of antibiotcs before the infection would clear up. And even then, there would still be a small amount of fluid there. I think she had had 4 or 5 infections in a 6 or 8 mth time span where most of them needed atleast 2 different meds to clear it up and then they sent us to the ENT.

Re: ear tubes mommies - with another question

I honestly cannot remember how many Abby had, but they were doubles, recurring, and antibiotics weren't doing the trick. It was a no brainer for me. She was 10 months old when the determination was made- just at the point when her speech and language as well as precursors to walking were about to take off. Not having the ability to hear properly has a direct correlation to both. No way I wouldn't have the tubes put in. They say that before tubes, it sounds like a person is under water.
