dumb question re: finger painting
DD is 15 mos and just bought her some finger paints...where do you let your DC finger paint...bc I know the paint will be EVERYWHERE and we have rugs down in our living room and hardwood in her room..so I was thinking of putting an old blanket down in her room and letting her go to town? Sounds ok?

Can you do it outside now that the weather is getting nicer?
If not, put some newspaper down on the kitchen floor and let her go to town.

my kitchen is open to two staircases...and no gates fit, it's a very open floor plan, it sux...outside isn't a bady idea, but days like today where its still a bit too cold...KWIM...

I did it on our dining room floor (hardwood) that I covered in huge black plastic bags. At first my DD was scared to step on the plastic but got over it quickly and the clean up was easy!

I have in the tub which sounds weird, but it's fine really, you just don't fill it up with water! It rinses away well. Or outside.

I wouldh say as long as its water-based and clean up is easy enough, the blanket on the floor thing should work. I havent even attempted this with DD yet... but the plastic bag idea sounds GREAT! Or maybe even on one of those plastic mats that are meant to go under the highchair? Or a stinkin drop cloth always works

You can also put her in the highchair (that way she is confined and doesn't run off with the paint on her hands). DS's highchair has a big tray so it was very convenient for early arts and crafts.

This is exactly what I do. I have made the vanilla pudding finger paints, tape a piece of paper to his tray and then put a dollop of the "paint" on his tray and he goes to town!

her tray isn't too big, it's the FP high chair which I hate in general..but thats another story
to the pp that mentioned the tub, I was actually thinking that..

I just let her do it in the living room. If you put out four sheets of easel paper, it makes it less likely that the paint will get on the floor. Whatever does get on the floor, I wipe with a wet wipe.
(Only on hardwood/tile--not carpeting)
