I don't remember the age but we use Crayola Color Wonder. No mess at all.

Kaitee was 8 months old. She loved it! It was messy! I now have the girls finger paint in the tub! I will also have them do it outside now that its getting warmer.
Brooke started finger painting at 5 1/2 months old!

I only have finger paints for the bathtub. I think I'll let her play with them outside this summer - might be a good item for her birthday list.
