Does your toddler play alone?

Does your DC ever play alone?

DS will 2 in a few days and never ever plays alone. If I don't sit with him, he won't play with any toy.

It's a little challenging when I'm trying to get things done here and there...

yes he does. He will sit and play for a decent amount of time.

Yes, he's had a great attention span since he was an infant. I would lay him on the baby Einstein mat and the music and hanging toys could entertain him for a long time

Now, he sits with his puzzles and can play nicely for a while as well. He can play by himself if I'm there or not. Sometimes he comes and gets me. Grabs my hand and hands me the puzzle pieces b/c he wants me to play. Other times he wants me to watch or doesn't care if I'm in the room or not

he's almost 20 months old and has been like this for a while. It is great for me b/c I do get a moment to clean the kitchen, make coffee, etc.

Not really, DD always wants me to be around, just lately she is starting to wonder off and play but she will scream my name to make sure I am around.

Yes he does, but if he sees me then its over. He will start crying for me to play with him.

as long as im in the room, yes. if i leave he'll follow me.

It depends on the day.

There are days when he is super clingy and I can't even go to the bathroom and there are other days when he'll play by himself all day.

DS1 will be 3 in 3 months and can def. play for hours on his own

DS2 is almost 15 months and not yet - maybe a couple of minutes but he usually just follows me, or Ryan, around.

I try so hard to encourage him to play independently even for a little and it doesn't work.

Will this get better with age?

DS will play on his own when at my parents or when he's with my DH, but never when I'm around. Sometimes if he gets distracted I can slowly sneak out of the room, but once he realizes it it's all over

All of the time. (My DD is just over 2) I made a point from the time she was an infant to give her time alone to play independently and it's paid off now that she's older. I am a SAHM so I am with my DD all the time and while I do play A LOT with her throughout the day she can easily occupy herself for up to 45min to an hour with toys, books, puzzles, coloring or a movie. She's pretty good that way.

Yes, most of the time she is playing alone.

yes, thankfully she plays very well on her own!

DD has always played well by herself from early on

My youngest always plays alone - my oldest not nearly as close!

i see a total difference in personalities.

Yes. DD will be 2 on Wed. and she plays alone a lot. She makes her dolls talk, has tea parties, etc.

DS was the same.

yes but I usually need to be in the same room. But...it depends on the time of day. Some mornings I can leave him be for 15-30 minutes during sesame street and he's fine. In the afternoons he is much more clingy and demanding.

that being said DS is 15 months and has never been big into playing with his toys. He's more active and into exploring and touching everything.
