Does your dc's grandparents have a car seat?
Do you let them drive your son/daughter around?
I'm not talking about grandparents who watch your son/daughter while you're working. I'm talking about grandparents who just want to go for a "drive" with your child...randomly.
I'm getting somewhere with this...trust me.
If you know me, you'll know what I'm getting at/who I'm talking about.

My parents watch DD so my mom has a carseat. My mom's friends watch their grandkids and have carseats.
I am actually kind of stumped to think of someone whose parents don't babysit but still have a carseat.

NO..When I was pg MIL said she was going to buy one..I told DH she would be wasting her money. The chances of her driving DD anywhere without DH or myself are zero!

everyone has a base now that he is still in his infant seat. It is for emergencies and in the event that they need to pick up DS from my house. not sure what will happen when he "graduates" to the Britax...
And no, I don't think I would like DS to be in the car if it were not necessary.

they have one but never used it...dh is a little paranoid about this. He works in insurance and hears many scenarios.
I guess thet have it for emergency...I really don't like them to be driven around by anyone other than myself unless I'm with them.

Same here.
Both of my IL's are over 70. They will not be driving DC's around. Only in an absolute DIRE emergency.

Yes, my parents and FIL have a car seat in their cars.
However, it only happened after our son turned one. Before then, nobody was allowed to drive him but DH. Subsequently, our daughter is only ever driven by DH since she is only 7.5 months old.

Neither set of the kids grandparents have carseats. So they don't even just drive around with them. MY parents and sisters have watched the kids when we needed them to, and we left them our car, with the seats in them, to use. I felt safe letting them drive. Not sure how I would feel the other way.

All three sets of grandparents have a carseat in their car and have used it on numerous occasions...
In fact my FIL just came to pick Jacob up for an overnight so my DH and I can have date night...
I am not worried about my FIL driving-- He has a Hummer so I know Jacob is safe, but I am worried about all the other idiots on the road.... Also, it was just easier for him to take him than me since he was in Commack at a client, and he can continue on to Hewlett from me in Syosset....

My mom used to have a carseat for my brother DD's. She would always take them out (she didn't watch them, just would take them out every now and then.)
If I lived close to my mom I would DEFINITELY trust her to drive my DD and would provide her with a carseat.
My MIL - NO WAY!! She means well and would never do anything to harm my DD, but she's so spacy sometimes. Besides I've never been in a car with her driving, so I'm not sure how she drives to be comfortable enough. KWIM?

Yes. Even my MIL who sees them once in a blue moon when they're visiting her in FL.
I took a lot for me to get to the point where I'd let others drive them but I did do it.

we have 2 extra bases in our closet if any of the grandparents needed it. at this point we haven't gotten around to actually putting them in anyone's car yet.
although I just realized my mom watches DD about 15 hours a week and doesn't have a car seat in her car.

Nope! We don't really let anyone else drive Miranda. I'm just not comfortable with it. There have been a couple of times friends have when they watched her for me but that's really been about 3 times in 2 years.

My Mom has one. She doesnt take my kids out too much but my brother was moving his kids up to boosters so we took the carseats as extras and one is in my Moms car. I dont have a problem with her driving them around but she is not that young and sometimes I worry if they will listen and if she would have the ability to ie, catch my DD if she decides to jump out of the car and into the parking lot. She's generally good but I still am not comfortable that she understands the safety issue.

We are putting our old carseats in my mom's car. She's the emergency contact at school if they can't get me, so I wanted her to be able to drive them if necessary.
