Does anyone own a Prius?

How do they drive in bad weather? Heavy rain or snow? Do you have kids in carseats? How do they fit?

DH needs a new car and we're looking into the Prius but he works on the north shore and the roads can get bad in the winter. Right now he has an old Nissan Sentra that is awful. It will slide in a rain shower. It would not be our "family" car just for dropping the kids of at daycare and commuting to work.

I have it! I drive from out east to Queens for work and although it's not the GREATEST in bad weather it does just fine. I also have a baby and her carseat(we have the Britax Roundabout) fits perfect. Two seats would fit. Overall, I like it for it's purpose, to drive in the HOV for work

I am on my second prius, I had an 08 that I just traded in for a new one. I put over 80,000 miles on the first one on three years I have driven in a lot of snow and I live in northeastern suffolk & our local roads barely get plowed. I think the prius handles as well as any other small, low car in the snow.

As for the car seats, I'm not sure because I don't have young children but my stepdaughter is 17 & my backseat easily fits 3 of her friends. The trunk/hatch area has plenty of room for strollers.

Right now I'm averaging 48 miles to the gallon & there is nothing better than going 65 in the HOV at 6:00 at night when the rest of the LIE is at a standstill!

I usually keep my cars much longer but I brought the 08 in for an oil change and a salesman made me an offer I could not refuse on a 2010, it was a brand new leftover. I strongly dislike car payments and I drive way too many miles to lease, I bought the 08 with cash so I had nothing to pay off, they gave me $100 over blue book trade in value, took almost $1000 off the sticker of the new car and added the new maintenance program for free. They are offering 0% now on the Prius, they werent when i bought in 08. From what they told me, they are able to sell the used prius' very easily because of the high gas prices so they're willing to pay a premium. I'm not sure if they'd make the same sweet deal on an 2011.

We leased a 2010 and I love it! I had no problems driving in the snow. I don't have kids but DH did drive down to AC with his friends one day and 3 grown men sat in the backseat perfectly fine!

I have a 2006 prius with 90k miles on it and I absolutely love it. The car is a BEAST! Idk about car seats because I don't have kids but I wan tell you that I use the car for work and I can fit 5 coolers plus tool boxes and other equipment in the car comfortably without batting an eye.

Rain, snow it handles itself well. Its not a 4wd or anything but its a hell of alot better than most cars its size.

I HIGHLY recommend it!
