Does anyone have what would be considered "high end" furniture?

I am looking for a piece of furniture that you would see as soon as you walk in my house. Not set on anything specific (could be a console table, cabinet, buffet, etc). I found something I love that is way over what I planned to spend. It is considered high end furniture. All my furniture is low to mid-end furniture so I was considering a splurge since I love it so much and is the first impression you'd get walking into my house.

My question - is there really a huge difference between the high end furniture and your average furniture? Is is worth the cost? I've looked an cannot find anything even similar to this anywhere else. Will it look out of place with the rest of my furniture? My kitchen is close by and that was just remodeled and most everything in the same area as the cabinet has been recently renovated. I'm just trying to feel comfortable with spending so much $$$ (I am getting a good price considering the regular price, but it is still expensive). Thanks for your input!

Can you tell an accent piece from Pottery Barn v. an accent piece from JCP? No.

Can you tell an accent piece from Christmas Tree Shop v. an accent piece from JCP? Hell yes.

Post the piece!!!! It really depends on what you're getting.

That's exactly how I felt when I saw it. Have to buy a top (stone, marble) for it too but I have a feeling I will want to keep it forever. Worth the investment I guess.

This piece is definitely unique and not something you see everyday in someone's home, so I say if you really love it than buy it. You will have that piece forever if you buy it and can pass it down!!!

I don't have "high end furniture", but I am into unique pieces of decor and other things for the home that I get when traveling and some things are costly.

I like mixing pieces, collecting over time & bc of this I have pcs from ikea to crate & barrel to design within reach. huge range of prices! But they all mix well & more important, I like it.

If this is a piece you love/cannot stop thinking about and can afford, go for it!

we just bought a coffee table that we were in love with... We paid a fraction of the regular retail price because we bought it at an outlet-- and even then it wasn't cheap, and more than the other table we were considering from crate & barrel. But, we love it, and will have it for years... and who knows how other things will hold up.

I have several pieces of furniture in my home, including my bedroom furniture that belonged to my grandparents-- perhaps these high end pieces that are worth passing down will end up in my DD's home, or her children's-- god, I can't even imagine, but who knows!!

If you love it, go for it.... not every piece is about getting the best price.

That really is something special, if it isnt going to put you into debt go for it! You will regret it later, you can have that for the rest of your life.

Yes, you can tell a difference. High end furniture will last for years. My dining room is 20 years old. It's from Thomasville and you would think it's a lot newer. DD's bedroom furniture is from Ethan Allen. It's also around 20 years old. It was my set growing up. While I don't like the style of it anymore, it's in perfect condition.

I have cheaper stuff too and while you may not see the difference by just looking at it quickly when you touch it and see how it is made you can tell.

My dining room set is Drexel Heritage and I love it - worth every penny I spent. I'm also looking for bedroom furniture and I will go for quality. My pet peeve is furniture with cheap drawers. I hate those drawers that feel loose and drop forward when you pull them out. I finally got DH to understand good furniture when I asked him if he could tell the difference between shutting the car door on a budget Ford or Chevy vs. a Mercedes or BMW - he finally got it. And furniture will last a lot longer than the car.

Yes, I think you can tell. I have both high end and low end furniture and there absolutely is a difference.

I have a lot of Ethan Allan pieces in my house - that being said most of it is from my grandmother and is in perfect condition. I think it is worth it to invest the money to get quality that will last for years to come

Yes definitely. I went without buying furniture for years because I wanted to wait until I could buy quality. I am so glad I did. The only mistake I made was buying my sons bedroom set from Pottery Barn. It has not held up well at all and will need to be replaced at some point.

you will have a good quality piece forever, and you children may even get it

the thing with expensive pieces is this- if it goes out of style, you have this piece of furniture that is in great shape and has many years left, but it doesn't go anymore.

from the piece you posted, it doesn't appear that it will get dated so you should be ok

who makes the piece? just because its expensive doesn't mean its a well made piece. if your going to splurge, make sure its quality!

With high end, you also sometimes get a more creative/unique or detailed design, which is why I think you can't find a similar piece elsewhere.

It should also last longer if it is truly high end & not just overpriced.

Also, with that piece, the glass is probably higher qulaity than a less expensive piece, and to me, that is something that you notice easily. It has a different look & a different feel.

I don't really care for that piece, but you will definitely not find something like it anywhere else .......so if you love it, IMO, it's worth the price.

I have everything from semi high end (Thomasville, Ethan Allen) Mid range and low end (Ikea) in my house ..........you can abslutely tell the difference when things start to wear ........and my LR tables from Thomasville weigh 500 lbs - the Ikea bookcase in the basement I can move w/ one hand - KWIM?

Would I spend $8k on a couch that's going to get abused regardless ? No -

Would I spend $$$ on a piece like that? Absolutely.
