Does anyone have the thermometer that "scans" the forehead?
And is it accurate?
DS has a terrible gag reflux and he is way too old for a rectal temps I find the ear readings are way too different from one minute to the next....
I was going to buy one yesterday, but thought maybe before I spent $100 I would find out how it works!

Had the Exergen one and threw it out because it was totally inaccurate. They have it at Costco for $28.

I have the exergen one. It has been accurate for us, no problems at all.

i have it and have never been able to get it to work. it's readings are always so far off (like 96 degrees). it was a waste to me.

I have the exergen one. It has been accurate for us, no problems at all. Same here. I think mine was from costco as well. Gina, you should have taken it back. Maybe it was a fluke.

I do. I think it's pretty accurate. It was a thin strip from Walgreens - not more than $20, I don't think.

Re: Does anyone have the thermometer that "scans" the forehead?
I got the Exergen (sp) at Costco for about $30. Not sure if its 100% accurate but its close enough for me. The older DS gets the harder it is to use the rectal one. As far as I'm concerned - if its 102 or 102.2 there is still a problem
I also do "beep beeps" with him when he's not sick so when he is sick he's okay with me taking his temp.

Re: Does anyone have the thermometer that "scans" the forehead?
I have it.. and I'm about to prove what a Dingbat I can be.
I was absolutely CERTAIN it was not accurate or that I wasn't using it properly... then I saw that there was a translucent 'cover' on the part that rubs across the skin that I never took off. So there was a reason everyone had a temperature of like 70 degrees!
Since learning to use it properly I have found that it is fairly accurate. It is usually +/- half a degree from the oral thermometer.

Re: Does anyone have the thermometer that "scans" the forehead?
Thanks everyone. I have no idea what brand I was looking at (at BRU) that was so much $$$. I guess if I can get one for only $30 or so, it'll be worth a try!

Re: Does anyone have the thermometer that "scans" the forehead?
We have the Exergen one and we love it. It's not as accurate as a rectal or oral one but for me it's close enough for me to make any kind of decision on a fever. I highly recommend getting one.
