Do you use a color theme to decorate your x-mas tree?

Last year I used all red, gold and creme colored decorations. Thinking about maybe doing something different this year.

We use white and multi-colored lights with various shapes and colored ornaments. It sparkles up the house and neighbors can see it from the window.

I do - burgandy and gold. Our living room is painted red, so I thought it should coordinate Chat Icon

Last year was silver and white. This year, it may be gold and white...we'll see. DH is Jewish, so I try to keep it more wintery than Christmasy if that makes sense. When we have room for a second tree, that one will have colors!

Re: Do you use a color theme to decorate your x-mas tree?

I do a silver themed tree, with white lights and colored ornaments, and colored garland bead strings (mutli colored bead strings and turquoise string beads). I also try to put at least 6 of every color ornament on my tree. The white lights make the colored ornaments sparkle and give it more color (hard to see in pic). I also have an assortment of snowmen ornaments. I love the ornaments from Pier1, Restoration Hardware, Crate and Barrel, PB, etc.

I would love to do a color theme tree, like ALL turquoise but I would have to go out and buy all new things which I don't want to do. Plus I have some really cute ornaments that would not be able to be used and I would really miss them. So I try to do a base color of silver with the white lights and then any ornament can go.

DH really wants to see gold and red on the tree, but all of our hardware in our house and on our furniture is silver/satin nickel, so I like my tree to coordinate. It would drive me nuts otherwise although it does look more Christmasy to me.

Re: Do you use a color theme to decorate your x-mas tree?

no - our tree is a jumble of white lights, tons of different ornaments - some expensive and pretty - some cheap and not so pretty, some ornaments that are meaningful (babies first christmas, etc.) and some that are from the half off bin at targets.

And since we live in an apartment and the heat is strong - our tree generally loses about 1,000 needles a day - by the time christmas comes around - it's a bit of a skeleton.

It's not winning any style awards, but it's our big messy, gorgeous tree.

Beautiful tree

Thanks. I have added stuff every year b/c it started out way too skimpy in regards to trimmings. Sometimes I still even feel it could use more color or ribbon, etc...but it has more color in person than in the pic.

Re: Do you use a color theme to decorate your x-mas tree?

I do white lights and the colors are purple, hot pink, green, orange, red and white. I have a ton of Krinkles - they are fun and festive and I fill the tree with orange, hot pink & purple balls.

We have 2 trees and the theme depends on my mood.

In the past, our dining room tree has been victorian themed with the colors being burgundy and gold:

This year it will be a Santa theme (Polish & German glass ornaments.) I haven't decided on what color the filler ornaments will be, but I'm leaning towards traditional red & green.

The family room tree varies year by year. I've done Gold, Silver & Cream, Sage & Purple, Burnt Orange, Fuschia & Purple.

holy gorgeousness! great job!!
ours is just a jumble each and every year. i love trees that have that "professional" and perfected look to it, but that's just not us. ours can be a jumble, and we'll admire the others from afar Chat Icon

Sort of a red & cream theme I think.

White lights, lenox ornaments that I have been collecting since we moved in together in 2001, red ornaments and red berries on the tree - cream ribbon bow on top.

Mostly red, silver and gold ornaments.......even though I have tons of ornaments in so many colors, I dont always use them all.

And I use white lights on the tree.

I do and DH disagrees with this concept of a color theme!!! This year I went with red and gold and I love it. DH thinks it needs more color! Since when do men wanna be involved????

I do and change it every year and it gets $$$- I'm considering a second tree that will be a mix of all the others so DH doesnt complain about the waste

I too would consider a second tree in the future. I would really love to do a theme tree, turquoise and the other tree can be the one with the mix of ornaments, etc. I agree, the theme trees are beautiful but I would miss seeing the fun and cute and ornaments collected over the years!

I do 2 trees as well. My main tree(formal living room) is done in white lights, cream & gold accents--DH refers to it as the "snotty" tree. My other tree(den) is traditional colored lights, plaid ribbons and fun ornaments.
